Wireless AV System

Myself and the GF are moving into our first proper home together soon and are looking into have a Wireless AV setup around the house. What we want is for us to be able to transmit music from our PC and video from our Sky/DVD to anywhere in the house.
The way I see this is PC/Sky/DVD connected to a Wireless AV System which in turn broadcasts the AV signal around the home. This signal will be picked up by speakers/tv's around the house.
Is this at all possible, if not, what are the alternative? How much will this cost on average? If possible could you break the cost down - broadcaster system, receivers (set for most rooms - lounge/kitchen/bathroom/2, maybe 3 bedrooms).
Any advice would be great!
