Hello everyone.
I have a problem with my son's laptop....since an update from itunes the laptop doesn't work.
The update suddenly crashed the computer...I couldn't switch off the computer without taking out the battery.
Since switching the computer back on windows and desktop loads up but nothing works...clicking an icon just gives you not responding...except my anti virus which opens but is working mega slow.
I still can't restart or shut down the computer without unplugging it.
I tried to recover using f8 and starting recovery back to a previously known good config but all I got was "no restore point created."
Do I need to reinstall windows?
Thanks folks.

Safe Mode only loads a minimum of stuff for W7 to work.
See if it is back to normal speed and operation and if you can undo the iTunes update or re-install iTunes.
You could also try Start Search cmd.exe. Right-click the icon, Run as Admin and type sfc /scannow

If you have a W7 DVD you can also do an In-place Upgrade before resorting to a Full Reinstall.
In that case, boot Windows normally (if slowly)
Double click the Setup.exe on the DVD. W7 is reinstalled without wiping everything
I got safe mode with networking...the computer runs good in that state.
I haven't got a Windows 7 DVD, but might be able to get my son, who is a software developer, to sort one out for me when he gets back from holiday.
For some reason itunes has disappeared from the computer??
I kept getting a notification on start up of "Apple sync notifier has stopped working."
Something weird has happened somewhere along the line...a virus maybe?
Thanks for your help
It probably has a recovery partition allowing you to reinstall Windows if that's what you decide to do.
I think your problems are more faulty update or clash with another installed program
There are many ways to sort out start-up and hidden program problems
I find WinPatrol is a convenient, comprehensive program to find and disable (or delete) old or unwanted items (Download gives the Free Version. You don't need to pay)
Explore all the Tabs and Right-click items for options (eg you could disable Apple related items)

Re-install from a Recovery Partition may be a final possibility, but it wipes the disk. Get permission from your son first and if he wants anything backed up
Can't find a recovery partition....the laptop is a Acer Aspire 5334 running Windows 7 home premium.
I think a reinstall is required to be honest.
I still can't get anything to work unless I wait 20 minutes for something to happen after clicking an desktop icon for a photo for example.
Start safe mode with out networking, and go to a restore point prior to the itune updates.
Before doing so, in safe mode, disable your AV.

Backup first.
I'll have another go when I get time...If I can't sort it out I'll wait for my computer savvy son to get back from his hols.
My other son who owns the laptop will have to make do with my old Sony with XP installed
