Am currently selling off the last of my collection to fund house improvements and the ones I will be most sorry to see go are the "Elektra Asassin" limited series by Frank Miller and "Big Bill" Sienkiewicz.

I almost completey missed the 90's as far as comics were concerned and anyway, such lists are always limited to who you were at the time you read any significant work, but in terms of later comics; "Planet Hulk" and Wolverine "Enemy of the State" and "Agent of Shield" both surprised me. I have never liked either character but found these comics highly readable. Actually gave them to some younger relatives of mine as starter comics - but there wasn't enough sex or violence in the comics for them. :)

Sparky include the strip set in the editorial office of the comic, and included characters like Throgmorton, the office junior, and the office cat. It also had Puss And Boots, about the eternally feuding cat and dog. There were some great surreal plots and images in that-as well as rather a lot of violence!

Whizzer and Chips included the strip Shiner, about a boy who regularly gets into fights, both giving and receiving black eyes! That strip wouldn't be allowed today, that's for sure! It also had Jimmy Jekyll, about the wimpy boy, who turns himself into a scary, tough character with a sip of his magic potion.

Roy of the Rovers: the title character was a big, super-muscular footballer (a Scot, I believe) with blond, and very long hair (it was the 70s). I also vaguely recall a strip about a man with a robotic arm.

Buster included the strip Faceache, about a boy who can contort his face, and body, into really grotesque, demonic, shapes. 'Scrunging' this process was called.

The Beezer included the brilliant Numskulls, showing the interior layout of a man's head as a working organisation, with the Brain Department the senior management on the top floor, then the eye, ear, and nose departments as subordinate administrative sections, often coming into conflict, and the mouth department, with manual workers shovelling food down the man's throat. A lot of clever digs at inter-departmental relations, and intra-organisation and class conflict in that one!

The Beezer also included Blubba, who was a pink alien, naturally shaped as a blob with eyes and a mouth, but able to take any shape he chose, who was kicked off a flying saucer onto planet Earth, and ended up lodging with some Earth family, and helping them, and others, with his shape-changing powers.

I think you're thinking of "Hot Shot Hamish" in Tiger or Scorcher or something. Roy Race definitely wasn't a scot :)

Buster (billed when first out as "Son Of Andy Capp") Monday
    Dandy Tuesday
    Beano Thursday
    Valiant Monday
    Victor Tuesday
Hotspher Thursday (forget how it was spelt)
    Beezer Thursday
    Topper Tuesday
    Chish and Fips
There was a scotish one that was written in a scottish dialect and though funny it was a bit of a task to get just what was being said.
There were the summer issues of some comics and of course the Christmas annual. Just a point of interest I used to get The Dennis the Menace and Beryl the Peril books that were put out evey two years so one year it was one then next year it was the other.

I haven't really read that many comics. I just tend to wait for an interesting Marvel story arc and try and get into that.

    Civil War
    Star Trek/X-Men
    Essential X-Men
    House of M
    Girls
    Iron Man: Extremis Motion Comic
    The Ultimates
    The Age of Apolcalypse
    Incredible Hulk - The End

These are quite different from the others, so I hope they count.

    1. Bunty,
    2. Judy,
    3. Girl,
    4.Mirabelle,
    5. Boyfriend,
    6. Dandy,
    7. Beano,
    8. Beezer,
    9. Topper,
    10. Playhour.

It would be great if someone had the time to spare to work out which ones come top and the order of them all.

Don't you just hate it when that happens?

Luckily, my parents had learnt the hard way with an older brother (gave away his Dinky toys... oops) so I got to keep all of my stuff :D

Looking through this thread I see so many of my favourite comics that I'd read on a Saturday morning. My mum would say 'That's it' but I always knew there'd be another hidden somewhere if I pleaded enough.

I'm glad to see 'Cor' get a mention. I was starting to think I'd imagined it.

I remember getting the annuals of those comics at christmas and they were brilliant. I also liked the Thundercats comics that were brought out when the series was popular.

IMO the only good thing in DC was Super Man. My mum did the same thing too gave them to my younger cousins

    Not in any order.

    Promethia
    Top Ten
    Uncanny X-men 151 - 218
Legion of Superheroes The five year Gap reboot
    Stormwatch - Warren Ellis run
    The Authority 1 -24
    Avengers 181 - 200
X-men days of Future Past (is is past? tense? there's been so many derivatives but the first one)
Teen Titans - Wolfman Perez era
    Asterix
    and, top of the pile.

The Invisibles - Grant Morissons seminal work though series three goes a bit weird.

That's put me in a realiy good mood.

Yes you are right except that Hot Shot Hamish was in the Roy of the Rover comic. Both had blonde locks but Roy the slim, smart English player while good ole Hamish the big burly Scottish brute. I preferred Hamish anyway more fun - you had to laugh when he had goal keepers and players running away from his incoming shot.

Preacher has to be my #1 of all time. Epic comic.

For the rest, I would say the vast majority of anything by Neil Gayman, Alan moore, Garth Ennis and Frank Miller. Because I don't know too much about comics, I find following writers a great way to expose myself to new comics (such as Ennis's punisher run or Hellblazer).

I had a TV21 (1969?) annual in very good condition and gave it away a few years ago. It was part strips, part short stories. I think I read later that they're collectors items?
