Eggheads: Should Student Teams Be Banned?

On tonight's show, yet another team of students, aged 19-22, were comprehensively outplayed by the Eggheads. On one question, about something which happened in 1954, the contestant complained that he "wasn't old enough to remember that".
Newsflash - none of them are anywhere near old enough to have accumulated sufficient general knowledge to put up a creditable performance in this type of quiz show.
There should be a minimum age limit of 40 for all contestants on this show.

I hate it when the Eggheads dominate, as they did in this episode.
The dental students today would at least have had an advantage in science.
Actually, teams of students normally do quite well on Eggheads - a fair few of the winning teams are made up of students and if memory serves me correct, the first time that the Eggheads were beaten by one player in the final round, that one player was a young guy in a team made up of students.
On today's show, although the guys in the head to heads didn't do too well, the lone player in the final round was quite good I thought.
Also, CJ wasn't even 40 when he first started Eggheads (he was 34) - it does help if you are older but you can have a lot of general knowledge at a young age. Especially if you watch a lot of quiz shows then you can pick up on things - I watched The Chase today and I learnt that if you try to pay for something over 20p using all 2p coins, the shop has the legal right to refuse to accept your money.
I'd say if you can watch a quiz show and are able to answer most of the questions correctly (at least 70%) then you have a pretty good general knowledge.
Is this a reflection of education today? Students are trained to pass exams in a particular subject but don't have a broad knowledge base.
I also hate it when people go on quiz shows and say thing like 'I don't like sport' or 'I'm not so good on science'. Why go on a quiz show then?
I agree. It ruins the show when a contestant says that sort of stuff, afterall we want to watch a competitive game, not somebody guessing all the time against some of the best quizzers in the country.
you can't be good with every subject, its mainly luck of the draw with what questions you get.
Yeah students are all dumb
I`ve also seen students win over the Eggheads - iirc one was quite a huge pot too.
Good to see various ages unlike the Million Pound Drop where 99% are under 30 !
Much nicer to look at sexy 20 year olds.
I agree with all of that. Last night's team was particularly ignorant and showed a lack of even the most basic knowledge.
And I hate it when a team says 'We didn't want sport' or 'We didn't want geography'. What were they expecting on a quiz show?
Sadly, I know a lot of people in the same age group as yesterday's team who are the same - they are only interested in the subjects of interest to them and seldom read newspapers or books. A sad sign of the times.
No. Not 'often'. I think you meant 'rarely'...
The ignorance of these students boggles my mind. And why do women always want to do 'TV and Films'?
I usually say "they've got no chance" when I see a row of students with Bieber hat hair and slogan T-shirts.
Possibly, as long as you've got something more interesting to listen to at the same time.
Reduces the chances of having to pay out large sums of money.
This is a common problem. It's similar to those polls where someone like Jessie J is voted the 'Best female vocalist of all time'. Not that I have anything against the lady, it's just that a majority of those voting don't know anyone who had success more than three years ago.
My experience actually suggests that students do rather well on Eggheads, probably because the show is for 'Eggheads', and not 'Airheads', and anyone chosen to appear would have to pass an audition that displays their general ability.
