Do planes really recycle their atmosphere?

I was told that planes recycle the air in their cabin and it made me wonder because a friend of mine once said he farted just before takeoff on a flight from Gatwick to Accrah so did the passengers have to breath his recycled fart for 8 hours or did they vent it somehow prior to takeoff:confused:

No they don't, you have to hold your breath for the final few hours of the flight in order to stave off CO2 poisoning.

Air is drawn in from the outside all the time and warmed to normal temps. It's not a spaceship.

I think they do yes, but they mix it with outside air.

Think about the replicators on star trek (if they were real), they recycle matter. Which could be from the toilets. When your eating chocolate, it could of originated from.......

Its anywhere between 20 and 50% fresh air bled off from the compressor stage of the engines, with the rest made up of recycled (but filtered) stale cabin air. It used to be 100% bleed air but this has been reduced as engines have become more fuel efficient.
