Breathe is my favorite song on the album. I also really like Thunder, Harder We Fall, Sexy Lady when turned all the way is fun, Gold, and I really like Square One, but the affect on her voice for the deep parts still ruins it for me even though I like the lyrics and melody for that part. I'm conflicted about it still because I really like it live.
A lot of the album is really anthemic which will be great for shows. Sadly, she most likely wont ever perform I Miss Her but I get why. I do really like that song and how it is basically her conversation with God about her grandmother.
I can't wait until she comes to San Francisco with Robin Thicke next year. Finally my chance to see her live.
Can't believe it leaked. It's great, though. She has really grown a lot since her first album. Still big vocals, but better controlled. Hope it does well.
rather unsurprisingly, the guardian give the album a bad review and the metro give it an average rating too. i kind of expected that to be honest and cant argue what is said in the guardian review about the delayed us release. this particular quote made me lol though.:D
" I Miss Her, a ballad dealing with the improbable subject of Alzheimer's, would be infinitely more affecting if she dialled down her performance a bit. Instead, she starts breaking out the melismas after about 20 seconds and goes progressively more bananas from there on in. The effect is distracting, like a heartfelt and tender eulogy being read out by a pantomime dame who keeps flashing her sequined bloomers and shooting fireworks out of her wig.":o

I listened to the clips on iTunes and thought it didn't sound that promising but after listening to the album in full, I really like it. Think it's better than her first.
#3 (Deluxe), behind 2 non-UK acts, Drake and Kings of Leon and just ahead of Arctic Monkeys at #4 and #12 for the standard The album is #5 on Amazon. We're not exactly looking at a Duffy-style plummet here but there's no way this will get anywhere near the sales of the debut.

This Pitchfork review of her first album was on the money, I thought:

He makes some good points, especially this one:
"Alive assembles a cast of spendy songwriting teams so vast it can claim at least partial responsibility for every major pop success story of recent years, from Rihanna to Emeli Sandé: Stargate, Dr Luke, TMS, Chuck Harmony, Sia Furler and Rodney Jerkins. All that kingmaking power and – on the evidence here – not an original idea in their collective heads".
I made that point in another thread. Not enough individual voices or artistry as too many artists rely on the same teams of songwriters churning out the same generic shit.
I'm waiting until Amazon reduces the download to £4.99 (like they usually do with first week releases) before I buy my copy. I think she's heading for another #2 with this, behind the Kings of Leon.
What about Drake? I think he will retain the top spot this week.
Retain the top spot? Arctic Monkeys were last week's #1. I can't see Drake being any real competition, Jessie is the much, much bigger star over here. He's admittedly doing very well on downloads but his CD is 18 places lower than Alive on Amazon for example.

Does Drake have a big pop following over there or is it just urban? Over here, Drake is liked by the masses, especially since he sings too(horribly, might I add).

We'll see
I love the album, very consistent but I prefer a diverse album like Who You Are but I'll still get it.

Although, Gold sounds like a smash.

But I really love "I Miss Her"... That is such a brilliant song and it's just written really well.
The inflatable penis got me haha

I doubt they'll be reviewing Alive.
