Both seem like daytime or multichannel fodder at best.

The BBC initially bought it season by season (as shown in Australia) which in later years was done at a pace of 2 or 3 seasons at a time.
The BBC's first Neighbours contract was a five-year deal.

Is it bad I want the awards to be low so Ch5 has a better chance?

I never even used to like Ch5 :p
But they are doing pretty well now with their shows.

No but seriously how do the TNA normally rate?

EE was dented by about 1m from ITV1 and BBC2 and strangely didn't pick up the viewers at 10pm.
The football didn't finish until 10.30pm, so that might have had an effect.

Broadcast tends to report it if it's on at 9pm, so we get the +1 data from there. But it was at 10pm last night, as it was last Tuesday, so Broadcast didn't even mention CBB.

This is a situation which we hope to rectify within the next few weeks following talks with Broadcast and other media operators.

    No - it was 40% from 1992-2007.

as for channel 5, they DO NOT have a firm say in storylines.

Channel 5 is not involved in any major story lining processes with any production companies. We do however have staff members whom are in regaular contact with the producers of programmes such as Home and Away or Neighbours in order to confirm that content is suitable for transmission.

So, no surprise incest storylines like the BBC ended up with in 1992. ;)

They don't get it on the datasheets they receive yet. I am sure if they contacted Attentional about it, they could get it fixed, but obviously not a priority. I alerted Paul Millar about it weeks and weeks ago and still nothing has been done, nor is anyone replying to the comments people are leaving at the bottom of the articles, so I don't think anyone is listening. Shame really as DS is the best source for the overnights usually, but since they are incomplete I head to Broadcast first now.
Thanks for letting me know. That is a big shame Digital Spy dont include Channel5+1. I guess there were similar problems when Channel4+1 and ITV+1 launched.

Hello Channel5_press, it is good you are getting in touch with major operators about Channel5+1. Can you please tweet a message from your Twitter account to confirm it's actually you the real @channel5press person on DS so we know you're not an imposter. Always better to get verification :)

Simon Cowell has confirmed that Steve Jones has been axed as host of The X Factor USA.

Not confirmed, AFAIK, but Mike Darnell said recently that watching hosts of the new shows reminded him how good Ryan Seacrest is. Ouch!

That can't work on TV. It really can't.
If this announced for ITV I will really despair. MTV or something sure, but certainly not a significant broadcaster.

Or maybe their planning to base it online? That could actually work tbh.

It doesn't sound like a broadcast show, tbh. I could maybe see MTV taking a shot on it in the US depending on the format. America's Next Best Dance Crew has done well for them. DJ's are in at the moment. It ought to skew very young. But I'd question exactly how they'll put it together.

The talent shows that have been hits have been broad. Idol, The Voice, Got Talent and X Factor have done well. The more niche ones - looking for kids, for bands, for rock stars, for country stars - haven't done so well. So they might all be better looking at another variation on talent shows but keep it broad as The Voice has. Assuming anything more can be done in that genre.

It sounds as if it'll be made in the US and that version will be sold around the world. So in theory, MTV in the US make it and show it on their international networks as well. I don't see any chance of ITV1 buying it or airing it. Or ITV2 for that matter.

I wonder if this is where those rumours about Will Smith on X Factor USA started? Someone adding 2 and 2 and getting 5.

I agree in part, but Sky's main reason for this is that they've peaked in terms of gaining subscribers for 'exclusive foreign content' and know to boost themselves, and keep current subscriptions they need to be like BBC and be able to argue why they are worth the money.

C4 can't afford what they spend on these either, their not profitable based on ad only revenue, but subscriptions.
C4 did however miss out on the likes of Karl Pilkington thing, would have fitted well for them - exactly the sort of thing they should be doing.

So I think they need some US stuff to fall back on (but should realise that the costs will spiral as Sky and others compete for it), but certainly some good comedy/drama is much needed. Atm Ch4 is just factual and quizes.

Yes you're right about ad revenue only, but then Channel 4 can make it a contractual clause to have all shows put out by Channel 4 DVD after broadcast and be distributed around the world by Channel 4 International, which would also add revenue for Channel 4 Group.
CBB does very well again nearly 2.4million and with tonight's eviction it could make 3million who thinks?

I think it could make between 2.6 and 3.1m tonight. It's getting tense.

Not a chance against the highly predictable but heavily watched TV Awards.

There'll be a drop tonight to around 2m exc. +1 for the first show. The 11pm show is a stupid idea and will tank badly, bringing down the overall average for the series. But it should recover through Thursday and hopefully clear 3m for the finale on Friday.

The NTA's will skew older than CBB..... I for one only ever watched the NTA's when my Nan was alive..... And that was 2007.

Dancc, just ignore the Channel Snobs on here. They have nothing better to do than go on the personal attack against those that have learnt that quality lies just beyond Channel Snore.....
    Salv* wrote: »
Again, is it Tuesday night tradition that we don't get Ch5+1 ratings? With +1, CBB got ~2.5m

It seems to be. I think they should report it regardless.
Excellent night for Ch5. Cowboy Builders & Body of Proof up week on week despite tougher football competition & CBB posts another strong audience. I doubt tonights eviction will be much higher, because of the NTA's.

I doubt the NTA's will be real competition..... It's an awards ceremony after all and who's interested in them these days?

The BBC's first Neighbours contract was a five-year deal.

Well that's wrong, because at the time Neighbours started, the first 170 episodes belonged to Channel 7 not Fremantle Media, so they would have had to purchase them before purchasing the Fremantle-owned episodes which would mean 2 seperate contracts.

I agree with you about the NTA's. All they are for is self glorification.....

At least CBB is about watching how celebrities cope outside of the glamour and glitz environment.

Can you please verify that you're an actual C5 press person and not someone impersonating Channel5 press team? You could do this by retweeting Marcus Bentley's latest tweet about Celebrity Big Brother from your @channel5press account. Here's Marcus Bentley's tweet:
Just finished my narration for this evening. Great show tonight. There's a big buzz at work in anticipation of an exciting night! #cbb

Press Release from 24th January 2012 with regards to Channel 5s latest commission.
Channel 5 has commissioned IWC Media and GroupM Entertainment to make Big Body Squad, a brand new 6 part series that will follow the men and women tasked with looking after the ever growing needs of our ever expanding nation.

Today there are almost a million morbidly obese people in England alone, more than double the number since the year 2000, and by the end of this decade it’s predicted that more than a third of us will be obese.

Big Body Squad joins the supersized ambulance teams, fire crews, equipment specialists, builders and carers across the UK as they service Britain’s ‘Big Society’ and deal with all the associated complications and risks that come with mobilising an obese nation.

Pleasantly surprised ITV Media have updated with Tuesday's ratings and not just done it on ITV's "high performing" days. Some really good multichannel ratings, in particular The Big Bang Theory.

The News at Ten on BBC One dented by the Football, which recorded a super peak.

Press Release from 24th January 2012 with regards to Channel 5s latest commission.
The press release is on Channel 5's website here: http://about.channel5.com/press/press-releases

Are you able to confirm through @channel5press that you are on Digital Spy? By either saying that on Twitter or retweeting that Marcus Bentley tweet so that we know you're actually the real @channel5press rather than someone pretending to be them. Someone over on TiBB was pretending to be someone from Big Brother production team a few months ago, who we all actually thought was real but then eventually got found out as a fake. So I learnt my lesson from that experience, not to believe these things unless there's verification.

It was a five-year deal, beginning with episode one. The availability of the early episodes was assured before the BBC signed the deal, although a handful of episodes were missed out because the tapes weren't available.

They would have had to sign a seperate deal with Channel 7 for the rights to the first 170 episodes..... That would be the first deal, whether they acquired the next 4 seasons at the same time or not does not make it a "five year deal" - they are still 2 seperate deals.....

It does put it into perspective just how poorly some of ITV's football coverage rates in comparison to the Beeb.

And what a crying shame it is that the BBC will soon be a virtual football-free zone despite the conclusive and compelling evidence that people like watching football - but don't like watching "football shown on ITV".

It shows how dire ITV Sport's coverage is that football-inclined viewers would rather not watch football at all.

ITV has rescheduled The Talent Show Story from its current 8pm hour slot to 10pm. It means their Saturday 4th February lineup is set to be:

    18.15- You've Been Framed
19.15- Harry Hill's TV Burp (new)
    19.45- Take Me Out
    21.00- The Jonathan Ross Show
    22.00- The Talent Show Story

    Chickens! :D

I suspect they are exploiting the weakness of The Magicians by tempting the post-rugby audience away with new TV Burp, and avoiding giving the final episode of Mrs Brown an undue boost for its Saturday night debut by making sure it doesn't air against The Talent Show Boredom, sorry, Story.

Not that J Ross is a ratings goliath by comparison...

Strange that EastEnders was dented by a clip show rather than an actual episode.

It would be very strange for EE viewers to favour a Corrie clip show.

Hence why I think it's more likely the live football dented it, and the extra Becky viewers came from northerners who never watch EE anyway staying after EmFm.

I think, btw, Farewell Pat (opposite Corrie) just edged past Farewell Becky (opposite EE) - 4.6x m to 4.57 m (overnights)?
