So we are barely into the next gen and we have the Microtransactions rearing its ugly head.
I think most people will agree that if the Microtransactions are cosmetic then its not a problem. But as Forza 5 has shown us, Microtransactions have now shaped how this game was made. Content was cut that was in previous games, (auction house, trading with friends etc) basically the game was changed to give you two options grind silly hours to get a car or buy with real cash. An example the most expensive car in the game the Lotus E21 you can grind for about 26 hours or pay £32.99. Sickening, and that is just one car.
The only way this is going to stop is to stop buying games that feature Microtransactions. No point in buying the game and then complaining. How many people were duped into paying full price for what is essentially a "free to play" game?

Here he is out of character, speaks a lot of sense as usual.
How long before COD start offering better guns/equipment as microtransactions? This years offering probably.
If they want to go down the smartphone/tablet route then release the game for free. I can only feel for the Forza fans who had no idea this model was in place and bought the game expecting more of the same.
I personally wont buy any game that has them. If that means a small library of games then so be it. Black ops 2 did have a map pack DLC that featured a gun. Pretty good gun too if I remember. I stopped playing after that DLC hit.
This one, the first post says all you need to see. Its just disgusting.

As soon as I saw the pay model, and the amount of features that were in Forza 4 that have been ripped out of 5, that desire actually turned into repulsion.
GT6 for me - it will have it's own DLC and pay model, but it wont be as utterly derisory and in your face as Forza. Plus, it has 60 tracks out of the box more than FM5, and 1000 more cars.
Go figure.
This.
I will put this out there; if there was no second hand game market and everyone had to buy the game brand new so the publisher got their full share, would we be in this situation now?
Of course, these companies want all of your money. Every last penny, why do you think it would be any different?
As I already stated.
Would GT6 charge £60 for a Lotus F1 car? I doubt it.

I don't know, do you work for Sony now? Do you know something we don't?
Also I have another question. After you pay for your console, your online subscription and your game, how much is (in your eyes) acceptable for a car? Or in other words, how much cash will you pay in order to not play the game?
But we don't know that for sure. Weren't publishers trying their best to limit second hand games as a huge portion of their profits are lost to that market? But because they can't do that without annoying customers this is their next option.
But why wouldn't they? You think they have a cut off? "OK we have made XXX million that other idea to make XXX million is not needed" Are you that naive? Don't try and pass this off as the gamers fault. And I wouldn't call it an annoyance I would call it the destruction of a game. They have gutted Forza and its previous model which the fans loved.
I said "doubt" - I didnt say "wont". If Gran Turismo sells a F1 car for £60, I'll happily retract my comments.
I think games should have a reasonable model for additional content, not have a massive chunk of it removed from the start and for the publisher to expect the customer to pay for what should have been in the final product - something Forza 5 is doing. No Nordshlief? No Suzuka? No Sears Point? inexcusable. No cars gifted when you advance levels? Cynical ploy to restrict selling of cars and to obtain in-game currency. No auction house? Another cynical ploy to restrict the users to the grind or to tempt them into buying in game currency with real cash.
A pay model for a few quid to allow advancement of a game is fair if it's an option. But to mould the entire game around either forcing the gamer to grind for days, or to give them no other option but to part with additional cash is wrong.
There's a line between being fair and reasonable and being unfair and cynical. Forza crossed that line by several timezones.
wow, wow, hold your horses. Where have I tried to pass this off as us gamers fault?
I was putting a theory out there....you need to chill.
So you don't mind paying real cash to skip playing the game? And you are ok with this?
You do realise that in order to get people to pay to skip then games companies have to make the grind seem unreasonable and make content really hard to get too in order to make people pay. There is no middle ground. Its impossible to find.
Forza 5 have attempt to find that middle ground. 450 or so hours of racing to unlock every car.
Well its our fault that DRM was dropped and you think that is why we have Microtransactions. That is your theory right?
The problem is balancing things up. You will never get someone like myself to pay to open cars so if they are locked away behind a ridiculous grind I will just not buy the game rather than buy the short cut to open them. As long as the grind seems long enough the people who are willing to buy a short cut will still buy those. Its all about balance and by the sounds of it Forza has that balance wrong.
GTA Online is the same. When that started the grind for cash was easy enough for someone like myself who likes grinding but too much for the type of person who would buy access to items. But then they lowered and lowered the cash payouts making the missions pointless. They started destroying the game to make their money cards more attractive.
Partly yes. I was suggesting if we maybe had DRM then the publishers wouldn't be able to justify micro-transactions as much as they can right now.
I'm fine with micro-transactions as long as they don't affect the game like they are now in Forza.
But they will affect every game they are in. Its not just Forza either. Like I said the inclusion of Microtransactions changes the game completely, even if you don't ever want to buy them. For them to be effective the game is changed to involve longer grinds, missing features etc. How can you support that?
The way things are at the moment that would just have been another way to fleece people even more. DLC, Paying to play online, Microtransaction, DRM, Digital Downloads all equal us paying more and more.
The lack of DRM and the used market is about the only thing keeping prices from sky rocketing IMHO.
That really doesn't need to happen. You could easily have applied these same type of microtransactions to GT5 (Or I am guessing Forza 4) and people would have bought them. There is no need to make the grind ridiculous just to sell more microtransactions because at a certain point all you do is drive people away rather than actually sell more in-game currency.
