Big thanks to CD93 for providing the link in the first place. I thought that this deserved a wider audience.
I knew that Peter had been in bands in the past, but had never heard him sing before. He's good, and this is a lovely version of one of Lou Reed's prettiest songs.
And, weirdly, he actually appears to be dressed as the Doctor!

On another note, did anyone else see the words "Inactive member" and think of Capaldi saying "Clara, is it over?"

Well, whatever the bizarreness of the closed thread, we get to see Capaldi sing Velvets, so it's all good!
It's one of those tired old arguments that contrary musos like to throw out there to show how controversial they are. File it next to 'The Beatles were the first boy band' and similar nonsense.
Not really. John Barrowman sings too, but ya didn't see them deciding a musical episode must be made cos of that.

Sorry but that argument is flawed. Characters in a musical are never aware they're singing in the first place.
Moffat: "So, guys, we wanna make the Daleks a real threat again, build up the scare factor. Any suggestions?"
Gatiss: "How about an episode where we see a brand new Dalek empire having been built? Show their strength and power?"
Moffat: "Nice. Anything else?"
Thompson: "Clara could sing at it."
Gatiss: "What?"
Thompson: "Clara could sing at it. A musical episode with the Daleks! The Daleks could sing too!"
Moffat: "Gatiss, you're fired. Thompson, that's brilliant!"
It could be like Phantom of the Opera.
There is no good reason for a musical episode of Doctor Who.
