Best elderly soap characters?
Who do you think are or have been the best older and elderly soap characters?
Seth in Emmerdale was middle aged when he came into the show and looked very young as did Turner and many Corrie characters. But once they reached old age they qualified as classic elderly characters.

I second that. Blanche Forever!!
When Ken threatened to leave Peter said "See you at Blanche's funeral". Although hopefully that wont happen for a long while as I couldn't imagine Corrie without Blanche.
Nana Moon was scute.
Lou Carpenter
Blanche Hunt
Agree.:)
You have a somewhat rose tinted view of Ethel Skinner. She was a very good character but nothing really special:)
So I take it that you won't be watching tonights celebrity come dine with me then. :D

Mavis Wilton (I know she was annoying but Thelma Barlow was a gem in that role)
Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander is brilliant and her leaving do was the first time i ever remember having a tear in my eye at a soap).
I think the Emmerdale oldies are great: Betty Eagleton can be very funny, Len Renoylds was a huge loss to the show and I sobbed at his death, Pearl Ladderbanks is played by a great actor and the greatest of all - Edna Birch, total legend and possibly the best actor in soap (tied with a couple of other rather younger ones from ED in my opinion).
Dot Branning used to impress me when I watched EE and whilst Peggy Mitchell can be the most overbearing character on tv for me there is no denying that Barbara WIndsor is a very good actor.
Imho Maggie Jones should win an award for playing her sooooo well
