Have spent some time reading the reviews etc and the Humax looks like pretty good to me. Can i just clarify two things.
Some say the epg takes a long time to load. Is this because they have turned off the machine which won't affect me. And am i correct in thinking its like a sky + machine in that you can go to the epg and press record on a program and it will tape it when the time comes.
When you have a movie recorded on the humax and want to copy this on to a dvd disc, how do you do it. Do you put a usb cable between the humax and your pc. Can you then use Nero to burn a disc by choosing a file from the drive....i.e does the humax come up as another drive letter i.e. R or S or T. And does each recording show as a separate file on that drive.
Sorry but been reading up all day as my panny has given up the ghost......keeps swithing off and self checking itself.....is it worth repairing.
Thanks:) this could be my xmas pressie this year

Yes its because the machine was switched off. You can set the machine to come on at a specific time like 5 or twn minutes before you get in from work or wake up so that in collects all the EPG for you in the background. Again, you can press the OK button on a programme listed in the EPG. Thats it. It will record it when the time comes. Here is a picture of the EPG which has a slight alteration coming in the new release in that it has an extra line to show a 5th channel. It also shows the day of the week and you can navigate around it with remote control short cuts now too. http://www.pvrjunction.co.uk/humax_gui_new/epg.bmp
There is an FAQ about this on hummy.org.uk which you might find interesting also: http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/index.php?showtopic=470 and http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/index.php?showtopic=471
Be good to yourself. You deserved it lol
Thanks anyway as i did have probs with the panny setting timings quickly although the timeshift was great, so will definately be buying the humax as i got rid of sky as there are just as many good films on freeview nowadays which i would tape if i just had to press the epg. By the way can you tape two films on different channels if they are on at the same time:)
Yes you can record two channels that are on at the same time, at the same time. In some case you can record two seporate channels and at the same time watch a third. Its something only a couple of PVRs are capable of.
Re recording from the Humax to a DVD recorder, yes its a case of playing the recording on the Humax and pressing record on the DVD recorder I guess. There is a request for the OSD to be switched off on the VCR scart which we are hoping will get into the next software update. Also in the next software it will be possile to atch a load of recordings, organise them into the order you want them exctly and have them play out one after the other. Basically, selecting files from the Playlist the files go into another plalylist called "selected Files". From there you can arange the recording further and play all your childrens Pocoyo to a DVD recorder. Here is a glimpse of what I am talking about, Playlist: http://www.pvrjunction.co.uk/humax_gui_new/playlist.bmp and selected files playlist: http://www.pvrjunction.co.uk/humax_gui_new/selected%20files.bmp But until the next software update you have to select the files to play one buy one when doing a DVD recording.
You can so some editing on the Humax - asically trim start and end padding odd, take out adverts and this process has been simplified a lot in the new version due soon. However, whenever you cut stuff out I and lots of others find sound stutters for a good few seconds after the cut point. If you want a perfect DVD I would say only do rough cuts on the Humax and do frame accurate cuts on the DVD rcorder or PC.
i think it still depends on how much space there is on the block given the font size as to how many characters there are. So 5 minutes blocks or smaller looks to be too small unless you put your highlight over it.
Cheers
I would get your machine as soon as you find a good price. Humax aparantly cant make enough of these at the moment and they have a lot of outlets to satisfy over the holiday season. In another forum someone went to John Lewis in Nottingham where it is now £186. Another is Currys buying online with a coupon code of YAHOO10 at the checkout comes out as £179. Have a dig around. Good luck.
