I cannot decide whether matthew is arrogant or just over confident.

Either way, I am not overly keen on him. Love him in Emmerdale, but don't like his over competitiveness.
Being competitive is fine, just not overly so, as it does not come across well.
Did like him, bit gone off him now, Chico or Sam to win.

this.
he's completely genuine. He's a bit shy IRL and he comes across as that onscreen i think really sweet with nina and genuinely wants to do well.
Ok, so he knows he can skate, so he isn't spending his vts saying "oh i cannot skate I cant do this" and trying to get sympathy votes.
He consistently strives to do better, and does, like others recognize the competition element.
Good for him!
I agree.
He's in danger of being the forum Ricky Whittle for this series of DOI. Nice bloke, works hard, performs well, gives genuine responses in the interview segments, demands the best from himself and gets slated for not being 'humble' enough.
Oh, and Laura, it might only be Sunday night fluff to you, but the folks in this show work dammed hard at it, combined with their 'other' day jobs. It's not easy at all.
Did I say nobody worked hard? Did I say it was easy? What I meant was the show is PRESENTED in style and tone as Sunday night fluff. So when you get a contestent who is super serious about it, it jarrs. It's a fun ice dancing show that is tv entertainment, not an Olympic sporting event.
Norbitonite's comparison to Ricky Whittle struck a chord for me - if ever there was a guy who was badly edited to look like a falsely modest, over-achieving knobhead, it was him. When you caught him in the ensemble VTs you could see he was the life and soul of the party, the one always in the thick of the laughter - but he was made to look like he had no personality whatsoever.
Matthew seems to be edited constantly to show that he's getting worked up and over-picky about his skating. Nice things he does like tweeting to congratulate Chico on his top score last week don't register half so much as those VTs do.
Ricky ended up being a bit of a disappointment for me as I always felt he didn't come across well on the dancefloor, but Matt, happily, isn't the same. I hope he continues to push the envelope and set the standard for others to follow, because when it comes off - like it did last night - it's amazingly exciting to watch.
No offence, but have you actually seen him skate?
I want Sam to win
He can skate - and has improved alot since the beginning, has a good partnership with Alex and is a nice bloke.
These shows aren't about being simply the best - if it was then we wouldn't be voting on them and everything would be decided solely by the judges votes
I know Sam wont win - however - as he has already been in the SO and others are constantly marked ahead of him i'm hopeing for a top 5 finish at least though
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Personally I like seeing people work hard and being confident in their abilities. At times I think this country can be so backwards in regards to confidence and self belief.
It's true that editing on these shows is horribly manipulative and often outright misleading but the trouble is, we can only judge the contestents by what we see on screen for the most part.
I wonder if Andy is as deathly dull and instantly forgettable when a camera isn't on him? I can't ever imagine HIM being the life and soul of any party.
I don't thinnk it's always about people being backwards. It's about someone's attitude not fitting in with the tone of the overall show and sticking out like a sore thumb...
Charley, Matt's girlfriend seems very hard faced. I think she's got him under the thumb a bit to be honest.
Or maybe I'm just being biased because Charley seems to be so chummy with the awful Kym Marsh?
I want Sam to win as well. I think he has improved since he started. I agree with what you say about these shows not being always about being the best, there is the likeability factor as well, I enjoy watching Sam skate I also enjoy watching Chico and Chemmy. Do I think Sam will Win? Probably not. But I know Both Matt and Jorgie are Brillant Skaters.
IMO I dont think Matt is arrogant just confident in his own ability.:)
i agree
