Hi all and Happy new year to you all.Just want to know everyones opinion on car colours. We have always had black cars and as well as showing up scratches easily we fancy a change. What do you reckon red or white. The car we have is a Vauxhall insignia which we love so the next one will be the same but in sri vxline with "19"alloys,do you think red might look a bit "chav"?

I have to admit that I have always had a 'thing' for white cars. I don't know why, but I think most cars look nice in white.

I only think sports cars look good in red.

I Like white, plus keep a "hi Viz" waist coat on the back parcel shelf, and watch people panic as you over take them on the motorway.

'Metallic' or even better 'Pearlescent' white. Just my opinion.

Be wary of on-coming snow-ploughs in winter.:)

yes white here also, but preferably colour coded white, some white cars with to much black trimming look a little dull.

These would be the two colours I would have difficulty choosing between. I currently have a red car but I think my next car will be white. Also, the police stop more red cars than any other colour as red is associated with speed so in order to make life easier, perhaps go for white? :D

A lot of police forces are switching from white to grey patrol cars as they are easier to resell at the end of their operational life.

My car is red, but only because that was the only colour available without paying £400 extra (when buying new). I wasn't going to throw away that much money just for a colour.

But red makes it a bit easier to find in a car park, compared with white, silver, grey, black. Although not as good as bright orange, yellow or purple.

(I've had white before, which has its own problems, such as showing dirt and rust, but it's just not very interesting.)

White every time for me, I have had red cars and vowed never again. I changed cars last year and went for the same model in the same white as my old one, trouble is, nobody realised I had bought a brand new car unless they looked at the plate.

I dont know why I dislike red cars, to me, they just look "common".

Tests have shown that red cars make other drivers "see red". It's perceived as an aggressive colour and acts of road rage against red cars are more common. In addition, red is known to fade more than any colour in sunlight. Red is also very good camouflage against brick walls in town. People drive into red cars without apparently seeing them. Ditto green cars against hedges.

White is a neutral colour and stands out fairly well - except in snow. My preference would be a compromise - yellow. Visible in all weather, less likely to fade, unlikely to provoke other drivers. Unfortunately, it's an extremely unpopular colour with a very low resale value! People simply don't use logic when buying a car.

So it has to be white - but look out in snow!

I have had white, blue and red cars, but my first car was silver, metallic silver to be exact, and my current car is also silver.

My favourite was white, but as said above red cars are easier to spot in a crowded car park. Silver cars seem to everywhere and on a number of occasions I walked to the wrong car.

It’s a valid point but surely not a criteria for choosing your ideal car; or is it?

I tend to use the timeless method of remembering where I parked; but that’s me, just an old sentimentalist. ;-)

To be fair I tend to do the same, and now that I am, shall we say, progressing through life, I try and park in the same spot in the various car parks I use to make it easier to remember. .

For that model I'd definitely go for white OP, I personally don't think red suits large cars for some reason.

White, with blue and yellow squares down the side - stick a blue light on the roof and it will make getting through traffic jams so much easier! :)

Years ago, a police officer told me that red cars were more prone to being stolen, because they stood out. Not sure if the same still applies these days.

The Vauxhall red paint is a good pillarbox red though! Better than most other red car shades. Have you seen the car in both shades in the flesh, i.e. not just in the brochure?

Yes I'd definitely see if you can see one in the flesh. I never wanted a red car until I saw the model I wanted in red in the showroom. Then it had to be red for me, but as others have said, some colours suit different cars. My cousin has a new red Astra, and the colour is very striking.
