Surely if it was theft technically or not tesco would have called the police and the fact the security just walked off and didn't appologise or explain what the op had done wrong means they didn't think it was
I think the OP knows what they did wrong.
Quite how involving the police in such a trivial matter would have helped anyone, I fail to see. Would anyone here think that was the appropriate course of action? Imagine the outrage that would have provoked!
