Looking at his Twitter Naughty Boy does come across as being a tool and having a very high sense of self importance.

Speculation, speculation. Simon thought so highly of NB he chucked out his song? Zayn has a contract to fulfil, period. His liaison with NB has nothing to do with Simon.
At the Brits last month Naughty Boy said he and Zayn went round to Simon's house last year and talked about the feature Zayn is doing on the song that 1D didn't use (which may have been because it's sound didn't fit in the album). They have a well established link, it seems likely now that all three had been discussing Zayn working solo for a while.
Naughty Boy is being such a fool right now winding up the fandom. And Zayn is being inconsiderate himself not saying anything directly to fans (a PR statement and newspaper interview doesn't cut it).
I liked the song though, Zayn sounded great on it. I think this was just a throwaway track, perhaps written with 1D in mind, and Zayn's album will sound different (R&B).

I doubt anyone wanted Zayn to leave the band as he did. Around the time the story blew up and Zayn flew home Naughty Boy tweeted "Strange what desire makes foolish men do". The song he is a featured artist on would most likely have tested the water whilst he was in 1D and still making lots of money. He left early and everyone panicked.
I don't know if they thought he would last until album promo in the winter though, not showing up in Orlando last November was reported by a leak to be because he didn't want to be there. If we're honest he hasn't looked happy or excited by 1D for a while, especially when you compare it with the tweets and photos he and Naughty Boy were sharing.

Maybe he believes that his material for/with Zayn is so strong that it will do well without needing the 1D fandom... Maybe he's pissing everyone off on purpose, thinking detaching Zayn from 1D & its fans is the only way for Zayn to become "credible"...

It is just Zayn and a guitar, I wouldn't call it particularly RnB. I don't think it is very good, personally find it really boring!

From Zayn's exclusive interview, I got the impression he was hoping the 1D fans will stick by him. I don't buy the ' I only stayed in the group for the fans' spin. To be honest I think it would have worked for him better if he'd said he stayed because he wanted to be loyal to the 4 guys he has shared his life with for the last five years.

Blind Gossip is a trash site, almost all of it is fake or written after the fact. It would be very difficult for Zayn, Perrie, their teams + bandmates to maintain a fake relationship for three years. They couldn't even keep the weed smoking video or cheating stories out the papers. I don't know how he could get his younger sisters to lie about it either, children aren't good at that.
