good god I could go on and on and on....no decade beats this one for rock music, and music produced with such originality and soul. I'm sure some will disagree, but I've heard The Beatles and showaddywaddy, but these songs are what get people in the clubs up moshing and dancing!

I fear there may not be another decade as good as this again

There are some killer songs on that list, but the 60s and 70s produced some MONSTER rock icons, Zeppelin, Who, Bowie, Beatles, Hendrix, Clapton, Elton, Dylan, Queen, Stones etc etc

No doubt some great music has come out over the last decade however

    No chance.

It was the 70s for me. The Rolling Stones with Mick Taylor were insanely good.

Yuck no! 'Golden age' would probably be widely regarded as the 60's/70's though personally it would be the 90's for me, Pixies still going, NIN and Manson still great. Faith No More and Mr Bungle still around. Some of the grunge stuff, Hole, Tool, Primus, Kyuss.
In the U.K Manics, PJ Harvey, Suede, Pulp, Primal Scream, Blur, Prodigy. Going to stop before I get depressed. I only wish I'd been born a bit earlier to have enjoyed it properly!

Me, too. The 1990's were the height of grunge/indie/alternative rock which is my favourite kind. Now some people may not like that they might like more of the metal stuff which is not my thing.
There are some current bands who are kind of reviving the 90's sound. I'm a huge fan of The Joy Formidable and Blood Red Shoes. Check them out if you like a 90's sound.

Busted? They were pop. The Fray are also more pop than rock.

The 1960s and 1970s will never be beaten.

The fact that the OP thinks Busted were a rock band just about sums up how ridiculous this thread is.

You took great care over producing a slightly provocative list of very derivative rock acts. There are a few half decent acts and songs in there but the late 60s/70s/early 80s is the golden age of rock.

And there are so many quality artists from that period, it's difficult to know where to start...Sabbath, Zeppelin, Stones, AC/DC, Dr Feelgood, Cream, Hendrix, Deep Purple, The Pistols, The Clash, The Cure, Siouxsie, New York Dolls, The Who, Velvet Underground, Joy Division, Television...

I take it this thread was a joke!

It must be a joke. The OP can't possibly be serious.

Stop being rude people, it is possible to be knowledgeable and friendly at the same time ya know! :D

Some nice pop rock mentioned but the OP should do a little research perhaps? Or just maybe he doesn't like 60's or 70's rock?

Personally the 60's & 70's were the best times in for rock no doubt about it!

While I'm not entirely sure the OP is being serious or not (I find that a lot on this forum! I want to believe they are joking...) there are a lot of decent bands that formed or were popular in the 00's that are worth checking out...

    The Arcade Fire
    Band of Horses
    Blitzen Trapper
    The Decemberists
    The Gaslight Anthem
    Guster
    Jimmy Eat World
    Metric
    My Morning Jacket
    Muse
    The National
    The New Pornographers
    Okkervil River
    The Shins
    Stars
    TV on the Radio
    Wolf Parade
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs

    To name some...

Not saying it was the best decade ever, obvisously it wasn't but if you looked around there was alot of decent bands around doing some really good stuff - but sadly most is ignored by the mainstream.

Yes, I'm inclined to think they're perhaps a bit young and/or not well-versed in musical history, if it is a serious thread. They can always learn :)

Agree, looking through the OP list it does make me laugh when they are classifying these bands as rock, in fact only the darkness could be class as a rock band of some sorts out of that list and thats "only just".

Has to be the 70's early 80's for me, when we had real rock bands and lots of them. In fact its been decades since we have had a proper new rock band hit the scene.

I don't think most of those are even rock songs, they're just pop songs with guitars instead of synths.

showaddywaddy rock?... lol.. they were a glam rock n roll tribute act.

...and most of these songs were not original, they all borrowed heavily on older tracks....

HOWEVER.... on a personal level, i agree! yeah, this old man who grew up in the 70's overall prefers rock from the early 00's to the oh so sacred 70's!

give me the white stripes, queens of the stoneage, auf der maur, hives, and many more over led zep, deep purple, gillan, rainbow, status quo, etc anyday... because 'go with the flow', 'no one knows', '7 nation army', 'follow the waves', 'walk idiot walk', along with others are PERSONALLY my fav rock tracks.

Well it could be a great era to you personally, the 00's are when I started taking music seriously so in that time I personally discovered so many bands that came from eras spanning nearly 30/40 years or so.

    Mansun (90's)
    Kyuss(90's)
    Led Zeppelin (60's/70's)
    Rush (70's)
    Amplifier(00's)
    The Engineers (00's)
    The Duke Spirit (00's)
    Dj Shadow (90's)
    Portishead(90's)
    The Cure(80's)
    The Smiths(80's)
    The Durutti Column(80's)
    Soundgarden(90's)
    Alice in Chains(90's)
    The Deftones(90's/00's)
    MC5
    etc...

So many more but you get the idea, the point is never forget how personal music is meant to be to you at that given moment in time when you first hear a song that gives you goosebumps. There was a lot of good stuff during that time, QOSTA alone proved that.

Maybe a golden age for you if you were about 13 at the turn of the millennium.

Those of us of an older persuasion would be inclined to think that a golden age, if any has existed, probably took place in our own youth.

To be honest, there are classic rock bands from just about every decade since the 1950s. The 21st century list is pretty lacklustre in comparison to the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

    Another vote for the 70s.

Second most important was in the 80s, namely 1980-1982, which was the age of NWOBHM, arguably more important than the mid 80s which brought us glam and thrash side by side.

Any 'golden age' from 1988 onwards owes a huge debt to 1966-1982.

It's pretty clear from comments that the 00s are not the golden age of rock that was the 60s, 70s and a bit of the 80s.

Perhaps it might be more interesting to consider what the 00s actually are the golden age of....if anything?

    ?

... but the op does make a reasonable case for the quality that was around in the early 00's..
