Share price is not really important to the running of a business. Only to shareholders.
I don't think apple will need to raise Money any time soon.
Whilst Apple have enough cash not too be worried I would say that Tim Cook and anyone at the top may have want to worry about their jobs! Shareholders have a habit of ousting under performing management.
:D Why would it matter which brand sold the most ?
I switched to purchasing Apple kit when they were a tiny part of the tech market.
When I purchased the first i phone a couple of months after release everyone said "why have you got one of those you could have got a SE/ Nokia etc " Now virtually all my friends/contacts have got a i phone ( the other 1% have a i pod touch ).
Although it is said that a lot of Android devices are out their the evidence is that a large percentage of these are used as " dumb phones "
It's aApples fault it's being out sold, a free S3 is under £30. A free iPhone 5 is around £45 a month.
Sell the iPhone 5 free on £25 a month contract with £180 cash back they wouldn't be able to make enough. That's samsungs model, pay the consumer to take your devices.
Apple are going to have to forget super high $1 billion a month profits. Samsung have 1.5billion debt, apple have a $100 billion cash mountain and zero debt.
What has the cash position of the manufacturer to do with anything? It's like you're saying your dad's harder than my dad.
Can you clarify what you mean by samsumg's business model is to pay the consumer to take the device?

It's like the most important thing. Shareholders are the owners. Businesses only exist to make money for their owners. It is literally the only reason they exist.
Apple's initial order of 65 million iPhone 5 screens for the first quarter of 2013 has been halved to what we assume must be about 32.5 million, reports the Nikkei. The order for the displays is split between three manufacturers: Sharp, LG Display and Japan Display. Orders for other components have been cut too.
The reduction from buying 21.5 million screens a month to 10.8 million is a big one, and suggests not only a big fall in expectations but a slight fall in iPhone sales from last year. This isn't something Apple wants to see when competition in the smartphone market is so fierce.

100% of your friends and contacts have an iPhone or iPod touch? Really?

Care to share that evidence? It's funny the way you say 'it is said' as if you think that part might not be true.

I said share price, not share holders
Have apple cut the dividend? That is how investors make money, not on short (or in this case very short) share price speculation.
First of all, the price of a company's shares is often used as an indication of the overall strength and health of a company. In general, if a company's share price has continued to climb over time, the company and its management are considered to be doing a good job. If everyone is happy and the company is doing well, as reflected by its share price, then management likely will see a raise and there is decreased risk that they will be fired. The management of a company is at a great risk of being removed from the company if they are unable to generate returns for investors. This is done by the Board of Directors, who are elected by the shareholders, and are responsible for the hiring and firing of the executives. If the share price lags, management likely will be removed.
There are other reasons that a corporation is concerned with its price including the prevention of a takeover. When a company sees its share price fall the likelihood of a takeover increases as the company is relatively cheaper. If a takeover occurs, the management of the company is often let go, which again goes back to management protecting its own interests as no one wants to be fired.
If that is true I'm surprised. You would buy shares on the hope you would make money on the speculative price of the shares?
I buy shares on the financial strength of the company and the dividend payment history. I obviously have a longer term view than you.
So divi is more important than share price. I see. For most people it's the total money. They have no preference for whether they make it one way or the other.
kidspud you said share price wasn't important. You were simply wrong.

That is not what I said (you can look at my posts), and I'm very happy with my share dealings.
How you ever got anyone to buy shares I don't know.
49million iphone 5 were sold in the final quarter on 2012
The comparison to the S series is a little unfair. For example the S3 can be brought on contract for £15 a month an the phone is free.
Even the iphone 4 isn't available for free for less than £30 a month. The S series is heavily subsidised with cash back also available fromSamsung.
This is a model Apple will have to copy in the future as the iphone is no longer far ahead of the competition an in some areas it's lagging behind. Apples constant refusal to discount it's products when the competition is bassically paying consumers to take them is going to start costing Apple big.
Link? First I've heard they have sold 49 million I phone 5's.

You talk some tosh I have to say, share price is not important to a company

Why do you think it matters to a company
This according to the word of apple is it
Coming from you, I can't disagree. If there is one person that knows what tosh is, it's you.
I said share price, not share holders

Its probably the most 'dumb' thing i have ever read!
Yeah that is how the share holders make their money.
No it isn't. Do you actually own any shares?

So like I said share price is very important.
Loads. I also used to be a trader for leveraged equity derivative products. Amongst other things.
Your suggestion that share price is not important is nonsense. And you know it.
Investopedia, oh please.

You know how to google don't you? "Apple sell 49 million iPhone 5 in December 2012" google that and see what comes up.
They sold 2 million within 24 hours on launch.
You think that is what an equity derivatives trader does?
No, and on that basis I have no reason to think your knowledge of share trading is any better than mine.:)
You know that equities and shares are the same thing?
Anyway, share price is important.
