The only thing that's offensive about this show is how atrocious the acting and writing is.

The acting isn't that bad... certainly not atrocious.

Oh yes it is in some cases. And come to think of it, the only part 2 believable sex scenes were between Sam & Cat.

I mean... they do not too badly for themselves... loads of cash, out every night and pull everytime... and Cat and Ed, seemingly brother and sister... one's English, the other one has a scottish accent.... so ridiculous, its actually hilarious. Sadly after catching up on Single Father, the actress who plays Cat just looks so out of place! Even her dialogue in Tuesday's episode about Lou early on in the episode just seemed uncomfortable.

Hi there well just watched the first two episodes back to back after hearing bits about the show n was written about in Diva mag ( I dont remember seeing any ads or trailers for it on BBC Three ? But must of been ? )

Anyway I really liked it. Wasent expecting 2 tho dunno what I though it was gonna be like but I thought it was yeah bit similar to Personal assistants which I only saw last two episodes of n loved it( wish id seen that all way through) n also a bit like a Lesbian This Life ( but TL was better without a doubt)

Yeah few things .... It was like a uk version of The L Word but hey we needed one didnt we why isnt there a drama about young professional Lesbians ??? We had Queer as folk n that was fantastic n we had The gr8 Sugar Rush but that needed sommat n now we have.
Lip Service is about ya middle class career Gays gals n SR was about a young woman learning who she was n the young teen types so we could do with one baout Gay/Bi women who maybe have familes n kids and are working class, then we would have shows that all types of Gay women can relate 2. Even if we dont relate to it fully still watchable.

Also yes Frankie is a Shane rip off

N yeah bugs me a bit that they are all very glossy but its tv n there are gay women like this they are just not showing the full diverse kinds of Gay n Bi women but that what it is its about ya middle class professional types that have the lifestyle n I dont mind that.

Its a escape in to there world from mine n I do like the characters I dont like Frankie but find her character interesting just wouldnt like her as a person if character was real.

I love like lots of you Tess ( I get the Alice comparession thou ) but she is a total sweetie n you care about her so she is making the viewers give a shit n thats good.

I like the guys in it very interesting n also like Cat ( what a babe) n The copper who is my fave character after Tess n also the eye candy for me she is soooo stunning WOW, hope Cat stays with her n not Frankie who is a arsehole!

Lou seems a right bitch at times but hope they are gonna show that she really is just a confused woman learning about herself n that its her fears making her be a right cow n hope she gives a shit about tess.

All in all I loved The L Word but find this is more relateable to me than that was as I defo cant relate to mega rich Bette n Tina n the americans but this a ikkle bit, mostly the character Tess as I certainly aint no rich city type far from it but it entertained me n the sex scenes were fine n I dont think fully aimed at men at all I think it was standard ur gonna get hot sex in a show about young lesbians who have no ties n yes that will grab the interest of the fellas but think they really did try n aim it at women / Gay women I think they really tried to do well n impress, giving us characters we would like n lust after n its working I think

Am looking forward to next episode

Surprised this hasn't been bumped before now.

I missed a 5 min chunk again due to a cable box reboot, but at last we have a solid story in Frankies death certificate, pity it's taken so long to (half the series) to get there.

Not overly impressed by the series but I'll continue to watch

Um, youporn.com is FREE, men aren't as dumb as you seem to think they are.
And yet you insult them anyway by suggesting that the only thing a guy could conceivably be turned on by is hardcore porn. There's more to being turned on than masturbation, or at least I'd like to think there is. Given the choice of something watching something subtly erotic featuring believable characters or watching a close-up positioned squarely between the legs of some bored, sillicon-enhanced porn star, then I know which I'd prefer. The problem with sites like youporn.com is that there's nothing on there that's any good for anything other than masturbation.

And before anyone says that there's nothing that erotic about this show, then I'm not necessarily disagreeing. Only making the point that it's quite possible that a drama that might otherwise seem a bit blah to the average male might seem more appealing if it has the promise of those kind of sex scenes. People don't watch a show like this for one single reason any more than they watch a show like Downton Abbey for one single reason. That's a bit of a reductive way of looking at it. But broadcasters know well enough that if they emphasise certain aspects then it will pay dividends in ratings terms. But that's more of a criticism of the broadcasters than the writers tbh.

Anyway as for the show itself; it's watchable enough. I find my opinion on the characters has changed since the start. I found Frankie really annoying to begin with, but now she seems more vulnerable I've kind of warmed to her. By contrast the Tess character is beginning to annoy me instead - just way too ditzy. And Cat is way too self-absorbed, although I suppose that's the point. But I guess I'll keep watching to find out how the Frankie storyline resolves itself.

As a bloke I like it, Kat is my fav...can't stand the "too cool for school" tomboy character....nice right hook from Cat's brother too!

Why should youporn try to appeal to anything else, they are a porn site. If someone wanted to wank then they certainly wouldn't watch this, its about as sexy as Anne Widdecombe's undies and you have to wait around for ages for any boobs to actually appear. In the days of internet porn do people really have the patience for that. I doubt that men are thinking "oh there might be some hot lesbian action in this slow and dull drama so I'm going to watch" when they could save themselves some time.

I personally watch it so I can go to L Chat and bitch about the following: how the actors look, how unrealistic the sex scenes are, how hot Lou is, is Sadie is a tranny or not, why Frankie is such a Shane clone, why Laura Fraser looks so aged and at least 10/15 years older than Frankie, why hardly any of characters have a Scottish accent and why they seemed to have based Lou on Christine Bleakley when she isn't a bit closet case unlike Lohan who they based Nikki Stevens on the L Word on.

Quite enjoying this series. Tess is definitely my favourite.
One thing that is bugging me though, is Lou supposed to be Scottish, Irish or English? Her accent is all over the place!

Irish, the actress even mentioned she watched Christine Bleakley in preperation for the role as she was supposed to be from the same part of Ireland as Lou. I'm not sure why they asked the actress to put on an Irish accent as opposed to a Scottish accent or to use her own accent.

I hope Lou comes back though, because surely that can't be her story over already. I want to know why she was involved with Tess when she was supposed to be "in love" with her co-host, Why did her co-host seem more pissed than surprised by the revelation of Lou's relationship with Tess, what will happen now her homewrecker status is revealed to the public. I'm far more interested in Lou that what will happen with OldCat and DullCop.

Oh and finally keep Sadie, she is awesome.

You're doing well. I can't remember who's who. Still think it's awful & really is there any need for a 'soap' about gay people these days.

Is there any "need" for any soap for any particular group of people. Of course not, but tv exists mostly to entertain us and it seems a decent number of people are entertained by watching the lives of various annoying lesbians. I don't think the show is that great but I believe its done well in the ratings for a BBC3 show.

It's just a show about the lives of women who just happen to be gay.

    We are agreeing btw.

Having watched not only the L word from start to finish but both the UK and US versions of Queer as Folk, my partner and I think Lip Service is as good or better than all the above.

The acting on the L word was great. Writing weak, photography poor. US QAF - great writing, weak acting. UK QAF - so/so acting and writing.

We love how LIp Service is more regularly characters (like QAF) -- it's daily life stuff, and they're doing it well!

    I like her too.

I'm still annoyed that they got rid of Tess and Lou's relationship. They were the hottest couple on the show.

Just watched the third episode and it's not as bad as I expected after reading this thread! I'll forgive its obvious sins because a series based around lesbians is rarer than hen's teeth.

Glasgow looks interesting, I might just visit and explore the city.

After a terrible Saturday I found this on BBC3 and gave it a go and you know what, it wasn't that bad. it was nice seeing the girl from Spooks: Code 9 again, after reading soo much about her character I was surprised to warm to her by the end and was drawn in by her story. I found the character of Tess quite bubbly and her double act with her male sidekick was nice, they have a good friendship. to be quite honest if the Beeb removed the sex scenes, you would still have a good story. I liked how the Cat's partner was tiring of her going on about Frankie and how it was dxriving them apart, albeit briefly. I will now catch the other 2 episodes on iPlayer and hope they match up to this one. sure it's about lesbians and has the now token sex scenes to grab the viewers, but to be honest i'd rather have more story and less sex!
