I think this might qualify for both "worst" and "strangest" categories. This was actually a minor hit at the time, but despite being a far worse mangling of a famous song, never got the hate that Candy Flip's quite decent "Strawberry Fields Forever" received, and seems to have been forgotten.
I'd like to play this to a Simon and Garfunkel fan though, just to see their face.
Erm....there are no words, I came across this through my niece's doll which was to tie in with the film and it's just bizarre http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54-wyUZrZ5U

That's not bizarre, it's just an utterly soulless, overproduced, session vocalist cover that manages to totally suck any fun out of the song.
You can tell the singer is probably quite decent, but has been told (or knows she's expected) to give an utterly safe performance that betrays no hint of fun or any sort of personality.
The only bizarre thing about that is how- on paper- they manage to tick all the boxes for an upbeat cover yet still get it to sound so unbelievably generic, even by modern pop standards. It's so safe, expunged of even a trace of attitude and... un-fun. It's like they have a mixing desk where the "Bland" control goes up to 11.
Oh yeah, and **** Disney and their obnoxious gender stereotyping "Princess" crap in general, I always avoid them like the plague when I'm buying presents.
Sheryl Crow did Sweet Child of Mine and, in-famously, Sugababes and Girls Aloud did Walk This Way, which also qualifies as possibly the worst cover ever.
I'm not sure this is a popular opinion but I preferred the Sugababes vs GA version..
One Direction' s One Way Or Another took two classic tracks, put them together and killed two birds with one massive rock by ruining both at the same time
"Strange" can be a positive thing, right? In that case, pretty much anything by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, but in particular Teenage Dirtbag and Psycho Killer.

A great example of twisting a song and making it their own as all good covers should do.
Oi! David Gilmore and Roger Waters thought the
Sisters' version was ok!

Horses for courses I suppose
Especially if your main course for dinner is a Findus lasagne.
Viva Vox choir - The Prodigy Mix (a cappella)
There is also an Elvis impersonator who instead of singing Elvis songs, performs cover versions of more modern songs in the style of Elvis.
The King - Love Will Tear us Apart
The King - Voodoo Child
Tin Tin Out also responsible for What I Am with Emma Bunton.
I like Emma Bunton but I don't forgive her for the cover of the Edie Brickell song!
