"All my lovers where there with me, all my past & future. And we all went into heaven in a little rowboat, there was nothing to fear, nothing to doubt. There was nothing to fear, nothing to doubt"

"People ask me when will I grow up to understand why the girls I knew at school are already pushing prams. I loved you then as I love you still... though I put you on a pedastal, you put me on the Pill. / I saw two shooting stars last night, I wished on them but they were only satellites. It's wrong to wish on space hardware, I wish.. I wish, I wish you'd care."

Aaaaaah, nice thread! I have so many favourites, but here's some from the top of my head.....

'Yours is the first face that I saw, I think I was blind before I met you' - First Day of My Life (Bright Eyes)

'Talk over gin in teacups and leaves on the lawn, violence in bus stops and the pale thin girl with eyes forlorn' - Albion (Babyshambles)

'I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images and when we kiss they're perfectly aligned' - Such Great Heights (Postal Service)

Seriously, do we share a brain or something? I love those songs! :D

I was going to put some lyrics from 'Albion' myself :)

I have a few, mostly from The Killers.

This Is Your Life - The Killers

    Wait for something better,
    No one behind you,
    Watching your shadows,
You gotta be stronger than the story.

This River Is Wild - The Killers

Or should I just get along with myself?
I never did get along with anybody else.
I've been trying hard to do what's right,
But you know I could stay here all night,
And watch the clouds fall from the sky.

    Spaceman - The Killers

Starmaker says it ain't so bad,
Dream makers gonna make you mad,
    Spaceman says everybody look down,
    It's all in your mind.

Bling (Confessions Of A King) - The Killers

    When I offer you survival,
You say it's hard enough to live.

    Starlight - Muse

My life, you electrify my life,
    Lets conspire to ignite,
All the souls that would die just to feel alive.

Top Of The World - The All-American Rejects

    Wasting away, I see you,
When the top of the world, falls on you.
Finally a day, don't wanna be you,
When the top of the world, falls on you.

It Ends Tonight - The All-American Rejects

A falling star, at least I fall alone,
I can't explain what you can explain,
You're finding things that you didn't know,
I look at you with such disdain.

    and

    The walls start breathing,
    My minds unweavinng,
Maybe it's best you leave me alone.

    Fingerprints - Katy Perry

It's my life, and I'm not sitting on the sidelines
Watching it pass me by, I'm leaving you my legacy,
I gotta make my mark, I gotta run it hard,
I want you to remember me,
I'm leaving my fingerprints on you.

And basically the whole of The Box by Katy Perry and Champagne Supernova by Oasis.

I can relate to every single lyric I've put, especially It Ends Tonight. That song pretty much sums up how I feel about my life on a whole.

Okay, so that was more than a few, but the title of the thread is favourite song lyrics (plural) :p

Awesome song :). I especially like this line " I loved you then as I love you still... though I put you on a pedastal, you put me on the pill."

At the risk of being so uncool with all these trendy people who like Killers and Pete Doherty, I love Albert Hammond's 99 Miles From LA. :)

Keeping my eyes on the road, I see you.
Keeping my hands on the wheel, I hold you.
99 Miles From L.A., I kiss you, I miss you, please be there.
Passing the white sandy beach, we're sailing.
Turning the radio on, we're dancing.
99 Miles From L.A., I want you, I need you, please be there.
The windshield is covered with rain, I'm cryin'.
Pressing my foot on the gas, I'm flyin'.
Counting the telephone poles, I phone you.
Reading the signs on the road, I write you.
99 Miles From L.A., we're laughing, we're loving, please be there.

Very clever, and a beautiful song as well, even when sung by artists I'm not keen on like Johnny Mathis.

That would be one of my favourite ones too!

I also like from How Soon is now - by the Smiths

There's a club if you'd like to go
you could meet somebody who really loves you
so you go, and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home, and you cry
    and you want to die

Poor oul Morrissey! but seriously, great lyrics though.

Poor oul Morrissey! but seriously, great lyrics though.

I'm not a Smiths or Morrissey fan, but that song is brilliant. I remember the very first time I heard it, I thought he was singing 'I am the Sun and the Air' and I thought 'uh-oh, bit pretentious this'... only for it to be 'son and heir' of shyness and 'nothing in particular'. Brilliant opening lines. If you can actually remember what you thought the very first time you heard a song, it must be pretty special.

Why are you having a sly dig at people who like Killers and Doherty? I never put the lyrics to be cool and trendy, I put them because they genuinely mean something to me :(

Aww no, it wasn't a sly dig! :(
A lot of the threads on here go over my head cause I've never heard the songs being talked about, when I come on here and talk about Karen Carpenter and Albert Hammond. And 1970s French electronica. My musical tastes tend to stall at some point in 1984, so don't worry, I'm laughing at myself - if you love The Killers and Doherty, great! :)

My bad, I just thought it seemed you were saying that the lyrics were put up to be trendy.

The Killers are my absolute favourite band (well, one of them) hence why I have so many of their lyrics. But I find Brandon Flowers to be such a clever lyricist. The way he writes, he can do obvious (like My River Is Wild) and he can write in a way you cant interpret any way you want (Spaceman. The way I read into this song is really weird. I mean really weird. It's meant to be about a space abduction, but I see it as something totally diferrent. Something really beautiful.) If I had it my way I'd have put a lyric from every single Killers song :D But I thought it would be a bit ridiculous :o

And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass,
    Of what was everything.
All the pictures have all been washed in black,
    Tatooed everything.
All the love gone bad, turned my world to black,
    And tatooed all I see.
    All that I am.
    All I'll be.

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life,
    I know you'll be a star...
    In somebody elses sky,
    But why, why, why,
    Can't it be...
    Can't it be mine?

"So many people are looking to me to be strong and to fight, but I'm just surviving. I may be weak but I'm never defeated. I'll keep believing in clouds with that sweet silver lining"

Sweet Silver Lining - Kate Voegele

"There are places I remember all my life, though some have changed. Some forever, not for better, some have gone and some remain. All these places have their moments, of lovers and friends I still can recall. Some are dead and some are living, in my life I loved them all.

"And with all these friends and lovers, there is no one that compares with you. And these memories lose their meaning when I think of love as something new. And I know I'll never lose affection for people and things that went before. I know I'll often stop and think about them. In my life I loved you more."

There Are Places I Remember - The Beatles

"And the tears come streaming down your face, when you lose something you can't replace, when you love someone and it goes to waste... could it be worse? Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you".

    Fix You - Coldplay

    'You hit me once
    I hit you back
    You gave a kick
    I gave a slap
You smashed a plate over my head
Then I set fire to our bed'

...And the rest, from 'Kiss with a fist' by Florence and the Machine.

(I hated them at first, but slowly becoming my fave!)

    Adam Lambert - ‘Soaked’

    Soaked to the bone
    Sink like a stone
    Walk home alone
It’s not the first time, it’s not the worst crime
    Your soul will be okay

    When you’ve had enough
    Searching for love
    And you miss the touch
    Of someone new

    Burns by dreams
    It’s never how it seems
    Cold crushed esteem
    Take shelter and hide forever
    Your soul will be okay

    And you’ve had enough
    Searching for love
    But you miss the touch
    Of someone new

    Ooooohh
    Ooooohh

    And you’ve had enough
    Searching for love
    But I miss the touch
    Of someone new

    Soaked to the bone
    Sink like a stone
    I will take you home
It’s not the first time, it’s not the worst crime
    Our souls will be okay

Sorry to be pedantic:o but the Beatles song you quoted is called "In My Life". It is a very beautiful song, I agree.

If I had to choose one lyric from any song, it would be
And in the end the love you take
is equal to the love you make (The End - The Beatles)

Lol, yeah it drives me nuts:rolleyes::o Which reminds me of another song whose lyrics I love, One by U2 (it does my head in when people call it One Love:mad:)
    Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
    You got someone to blame
    You say...

    One love
    One life
    When it's one need
    In the night
    One love
    We get to share it
    Leaves you baby if you
    Don't care for it

    Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
    Well it's...

    Too late
    Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
    We get to
    Carry each other
    Carry each other
    One...
Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

    Did I ask too much
    More than a lot
    You gave me nothing
    Now it's all I got
    We're one
    But we're not the same
    Well we
    Hurt each other
    Then we do it again
    You say
    Love is a temple
    Love a higher law
    Love is a temple
    Love the higher law
    You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
    To what you got
When all you got is hurt
    One love
    One blood
    One life
You got to do what you should
    One life
    With each other
    Sisters
    Brothers
    One life
    But we're not the same
    We get to
    Carry each other
    Carry each other

    One...life

    One

    These are mine.. Pink Floyd...

Day after day, love turns grey
Like the skin of a dying man.
Night after night, we pretend its all right
But I have grown older and
    You have grown colder and
Nothing is very much fun any more.
And I can feel one of my turns coming on.
I feel cold as a razor blade,
    Tight as a tourniquet,
    Dry as a funeral drum.
