Soap has already had a mention, but its spin off "Benson" hasn't yet.
Loved both shows.
My most loved sitcom from this era which doesn't get too many mentions on lists like this is Married with Children, which I used to howl with laughter at. It was one of those shows though that went on too long, and by the 8th season should have been wrapped up....
I was just about to mention Nurses. I wonder how many people do actually remember that one.
I remember when it was originally shown on ch4.I think it was shown on Friday nights. There was a freeview channel once called abc1 which also showed Nurses.
Anyone who has seen Tabitha will understand why it is virtually forgotten and why it only lasted 13 episodes
I wouldn't call Maude forgotten. Like Roseanne, it is still widely discussed today and dealt with many controverisial issues that are still an issue in today's world. The famous Abortion two parter broke new ground and Maude was perhaps the first sitcom character ever to embrace and support gay rights.
Although i can't work out whether we are discussing american sitcoms that are forgotten in general or over here.
I remember Nurses as well. It is set within the world of The Golden Girls. First there was The golden girls, then empty nest which was about their recently widowed neighbour who is a doctor and then there was Nurses which was set in the hospital the doctor from empty nests worked at.
I saw a few episodes on the now defunct television channel, ABC1 which used to show a load of american sitcoms, much like how Paramount used to.
I wish we had what US have. They have TV Land which shows perhaps nearly every american sitcom from the 50's-90's. It's normally all i watch whenever i am in the states.
'Diff'rent Strokes' was and always will one of my favourite 70's/80's US shows.. it paved the way for 'The Facts of Life' too which I've been enjoying recently over on Canadian Netflix.
Had a young Jason Bateman in it and was on BBC1 mid-afternoon.
Speaking of whom, 'It's Your Move', short lived sitcom by the people who then went on to make 'Married With Children'. Started off with Bateman playing a teenager who conned his way through life with his mother being ablivious to his scheming ways. Sadlym the netwrok got cold feet, and had him revealed as a con man to his mother far too early, as they didn't think it was suitable to have that kind of kid as the lead in their show.
Everyone remembers the 'Dregs Of Humanity' episodes.

I remember it. It wasn't much good, but one of the nurses (Julie, I think) had an amazing smile. She appeared in a couple of Sienfeld episodes.
I also was keen on 'welcome back Kotter' with a very young John Travolta.
Suddenly Susan - Brooke Shields sitcom, 4 seasons, again in the late 90's.
I bloody loved both of these shows, but nobody ever remembers them at all.
Edit, apologies, just realised the OP was asking for sitcoms in the 70's & 80's

I think it was shown on a Sunday night back in the 80's
Rhoda

Hogans Heroes (Owww how I loved this show)

Major Dad was on BBC1 on Monday evenings IIRC

They are on DVD. Kate and Allie was such a lovely show, that I had to buy it some time ago.
One of my favourites.
