New Software has broken Manual Recording!

Prior to the software update, pressing the Record button would begin recording the programme you're currently watching from the point you are watching at, be that live or some historical point in the rewind buffer. To stop recording, you just pressed the Stop button.

One of the recent software updates has broken this function. Now, pressing the Record button takes you to the recording schedule menu, from where the only option is to record the *entire* programme.

PROBLEM: if there is not enough disk space for the ENTIRE programme, the recording does not start, so it is impossible to record ANY of it!

I wanted to record one 3-minute music video from one of the music channels, with over 2 hours of disk space remaining. Because the entire "programme" was 4 hours long, the box refused to start recording. I had to resort to recording the music video on the DVD recorder from the rewind buffer.

Any chance of going back to the old system, where pressing Record just started recording?

I think you need to free up some space. Pressing Record for 5 seconds starts a manual record and pressing stop for 5 seconds stops it on my box, just as before.

If you turn off the pause buffer it might help, as recording is trying to bring in the pause buffer too.

edit: You're right - a manual record is trying to allocate space for the whole duration of the programme. Which is when recording will automatically stop.

You need to free up a lot more disk space.

Manual recording is not disabled in the new software.

You seem to have misunderstood me.

I want to record for THREE MINUTES from the Rewind buffer.

I have ONE HOUR of disk space remaining.

The ENTIRE PROGRAMME is longer than one hour.

I DO NOT want to record the entire programme.

Prior to the software update, this was possible.

    Now it isn't.

I think you will find that if you free up some disk space like other posters have mentioned, you will be able to this, deleting planned recordings will free up disk space as although these programmes aren't stored the box reserves the space.

    Regards

    Jamie

You're right the behaviour has changed in this version.

    Did it ever do this?

I thought it always cropped to either the start or finish, depending on which it had.

I imagine you have been banned from DS in the past with social interaction skills of this quality.

I agree with you lstar, I think instant record has always meant instant record of the current program through to the end including whatever buffer the current tuner currently had.

I've never been able to record 3 minute snippets from programs.

I thought I was able to cut a programme short with a stop button, as something came up saying do you want to keep the bit you have recorded.....

As far as I know this is still working?
