Because anyone still using CB radios some 30 years after they went out of fashion is likely to be a friendless weirdo who lives with their nan.

I don't think I've heard the word "wazzock" since the 1990's

Sorry got distracted .. Sorry OP - not been on CB since 1982 my handle was Fairyfeet! I kind of kept it - used to use it around 1981/1982 period it was great back then for getting in touch with friends etc who had CB's I didn't have one myself but I know a few people on my road who did so it was a free way of speaking to people I knew! Even back then though there were some people who were erm well yes Wazzocks!

    10 10 Good buddy :)

Yeah, I think the last time I heard the word "wazzock" was probably round about the same time as I last heard anyone talking about CB radio.

It's exactly the same with Zello (A "CB simulator" on mobile phones)

If you give people the opportunity to converse with each other with no structure or purpose and a high level of anonymity, the talk will inevitably turn immediately to filth, racism and ad-hominem attacks.

Both CB (including 27.555) and Zello appear to be extremely popular with gobshites from Scotland and people shouting in "fake" Arabic. Make of that what you will.

Well, here's a thread that I would have bet money had been resurrected from, erm, about 1988.

In Manchester, illegal power PMR446 and CB are both still used today as a "DoleNet". They use the internet as well obviously, but there is a hardcore community of people shouting at each other from the towerblocks.

Ah my creepy neighbour appears to have one of these. He's of indeterminate age (uses the F word a lot and has very young kids yet wears beige, is bald as a coot and listens to something that sounds remarkably like Daniel O'Donnel/Des O'Connor). Doesn't live with his mum but the only bird he seems to have been able to pull is a druggie. Not sure he fits the stereotype but yes, in the age of the internet, some sad wazzocks (nice word, due a re-boot) are definitely still pleasuring themselves whilst they talk to sweaty lorry drivers.

Somebody I know has a CB and a bloody great antenna, so it's not an entirely dead hobby. He must be about 40 though so I guess he grew up with that sort of tech.

That's what I believe is called a hobby.

When I take a break from working out/having sex, I sometimes listen to my shortwave radio and you do still hear a lot of ham radio enthusiasts on the amateur bands.

The ham radio reception in some branches of Subway's non-existent, though.

I vaguely remember when I was young, this guy down the road had this massive "mast"/antenna thing up the side of his house, it was taller than his house I think. That was apparently a CB radio, they had well gone out of fashion by then I think.

So I am surprised there are still people using them.
