We weren't allowed to put bags on our shoulders at our school in case they knocked someone in the head. Tennis balls were banned too. All sorts of stuff and silly worse rules were in place. I think straws were even banned at one point because they were being used as pea shooters.
That was a long, long time ago.
Schools taking precautions to protect pupils is hardly a new thing and neither is it news in my opinion.
The School I went to banned leather and denim jackets as the head teacher thought trouble causes wore them and banning them would help with the discipline (It didn't)
