I'm really excited for the jazz album - think it'll be like a break for her but still allow her to be connected to fans and music. She won't have to worry about performance concepts, choreography and elaborate videos so much, she can just enjoy the performing side and doing it with Tony, whom she seems to adore.
I think she's losing her way though the GP aren't connecting with her anymore and her hardcore fanbase can't save the sales at this time. Not sure what exactly she should do other than complete the tour, tweaking it as she goes and writing and meeting fans. Perhaps go back to the beginning - go over the processes of her success, not just her input but others too, and how hard but simple it all was at the beginning. She needs some perspective and some clear thought as to what she wants and how she's going to execute it.
Agreed Josh she has a massive talent ---- and unlike most artists she can effortlessly switch between genres, dance , pop , jazz, rock e.t.c so she can basically go in any direction she wants. I think that sometimes this means she kind of falls between the cracks of trying to do them all.
The Tony Bennett Jazz album -- Cheek to Cheek -- is supposedly being released in September. If that is well received maybe that's the direction she will take. Who knows?? --- not even her I suspect
Yeah...I adore versatile artists :-)
She is indeed that, and yeah i feel with this tour Cheek to Cheek will be a nice "break" away from "needing to sell/connect with mainstream audiences" it will be a nice album and a ncie take on the diversity of her talents.
Then i really think she may slowly rediscover herself...just had a discussion with a friend on facebook...I do very muchso prefer her more intimate sets/gigs she does...she seems more intimate but open and expressive enough....I mean she converted me into a harder fan with her Born This Way promo shows and her Big Weeken performance in Carlisle that year....and that Iheartradio performance she did....brilliant.
LOVED her Itunes performance alst year REALLy sold ARTPOP to me all the moreso...and wished she went further with those style eprformances...but hey.
I do personally feel I would prefer if she really did make music for the sake of great music rather than try and "compete" with Katy Perry/Rihanna/Miley and whomever else will be up and coming over the years....but hey.
I do think though mainstream audiences are important...i mean it really helps you to sell....rather than shutting out completely...I would love her to really focus on where to head next musically and artistically she can still blossom and grow in time...would hate her to burn out or get lost really. We shall see.
adore this minimalism...such a beautiful voice and ADORE the recent look she has sported around NYC :-)
Yep it doesn't get more minimal than this
I'm really looking forward to the Jazz album ( hopefully in September ) I love JazzGa. Wouldn't be worried if this was the direction she took at some point
WHat i am interested in is ...maybe next album? if she does do a really arty Jazz influenced album....like Dark Wave/Witch House meets Jazz? i reckon it would work and be truly something beautiful :-) or House meets Jazz?
Just putting it out there :-) I wouldnt want Lady gaga to lose that nack of creating insanely infectious electronic grooves/hooks but iwould ADORE her fusing Jazz in with her material in future :-) not all out 110% Jazz albums but fusing elements together :-) Would adore that :-D
Considering the people involved and the behind the scenes pics i had a feeling it would be kinda intentionally dirty with subliminal messaging...in some ways i am gutted she didnt release it to counter-act the Robin Thicke craziness of last year...but alas also gald because the clips look a bit tacky really....would have preferred some of the imagery used from the 02 ads though as that felt more in line with ARTPOP but again Terry was directing not Inez and Vindooh :-) who shot the album artwork, Applause, the ARTPOP mini film (used on you tube for release week) and the 02 ads :-)
Speaking of which i do love ARTPOP so much just so trippy...so underrated.
It's things like this that makes me a fan. I am not big on the ARTPOP era, but her voice, and her acoustics are second to none.
She needs to bring jazz back into the mainstream. Bringing in jazzy undertones to her music is something I see as very Gaga. Setting trends and doing something different, but wonderful. She did it with the EDM in 2009, and she can do it again. Her biggest asset is her jazz singing for me.
As Josh says considering the people involved it was always going to be a soft porn fest.
The message of the song --- the way the media treat's artists --- just gets lost in all the sexual imagery and the public just see a video about sex.
My theory is that Gaga learned her trade performing in some of the more seedy bars and clubs of NYC so I am guessing that being around scumbags like Richardson a Kelly was fairly normal so she doesn't necessarily see what the problems may be of being associated with them now.
She has plenty of enemies who want to bring her down so she needs to be careful who she works with or she will just provide them with ammunition to drag her.
Working with Tony Bennett will go a long way towards improving her image so she needs to be careful not to throw that away. She is incredibly talented and that gets lost with her trying to be controversial when she really doesn't need to be
Controversy can be utilised in a good way see Madonna....and indeed Lady gaga sometimes hits those right spots...but when she doesnt "need" to be a lot of the more casual listeners just kinda get blindsided by it really or perhaps see it as too "try hard" in some ways.
I love that naturally she is eccentric and i feel we should see more of that....not going OTT with outfits just strip it all back with milder eccentric appearence perhaps and focus on insane music all the moreso...I do believe mixing Electronica with Jazz should be a way forward definitely :-) she can nail that and make something of an opus for herself....definitely...
Am I the only one who doesn't care for the jazz album?
No you're not but from what I've seen you are probably in a minority. I reckon the fan base is split 80% / 20% in favour or are at least intrigued by it.
The thing is it was always going to happen. We know she likes jazz and was in the jazz band at high school. She occasionally performs the odd jazz number.
If you read the comments under the video of The lady is a tramp on YouTube (and there are thousands of them) every other comment is "she should do more jazz" _ "she should make a Jazz album" and even "she should give up pop and do Jazz instead". Which shows there is a appetite amongst fans and the general public for the album and from a record labels view money to be made
There is no question she is a fantastic Jazz singer and it really brings out the best in her voice and I think doing this, especially with such an established and highly respected artist as Tony Bennett, will do her reputation and credibility a power of good, finding a new set of Jazz fans who aren't as flaky and loopy as some of her current fan base and maybe go some way to repairing the damage she has done to her career with some of her less well thought out stunts like vomitgate and involvement with people like Richardson and Kelly.
Personally I can't wait for the album but then I like Jazz
Comments by Tony Bennett in a recent interview Bennett : [...] I don't listen to anything current: I'm not one to follow the top 40. In fact, I don't even pay any attention to it!
Question: Not even to Lady Gaga with whom you're releasing a new album?
Bennett : I don't understand why she makes contemporary music! When she sings great standards, she does it with such emotion... She will surprise people by the quality of her voice when making quality songs. We sing covers together on the album, but also separately. There are also some original songs, including one she wrote called Paradise. With this album, I think she will become bigger than Elvis Presley! Of course we recorded the album in New York. As the song says: "If you can make it in New York, you'll make it anywhere.
there have been many teasers thus far on social media.....plus an image of her in Sin City 2....so glad she is continuing to venture in the area of film :-) I think she is suited to it as a performance artist :-) great to see
I really hope with this break away (i know she has shows to do and this Jazz album but still) and really help reinvent her by the time album 4 comes along :-) will do her the benefit of good.

She said recently that at the moment acting isn't high on her agenda but following on to Cheek to Cheek and with her stage school training I can see the offers coming in and Broadway being a potential stop for her.
She's definitely very happy in herself now which she wasn't a while ago so I think she has some kid of master plan for the future.
I am intrigued by what Cheek to Cheek will offer, I do hope it will be a turning point for Gaga. As for Broadway, that would be interesting, I do believe that the stage is somewhere she could flourish if she gets the right parts.
am i the only gaga fan a little bit confused by the 'art pop' era?
I was so expecting more single releases with videos
then the tony collab jazz album
then an album reboot with an additional part 2?
so many songs could be so linked with art based videos:
mary j holland - girl with pearl earing
sexx dreams - scream/dahli/ pop art - marilyn monroe
artpop - prequel to the art pop video: cupid - michaelangelo

i am surprised that it wasn't like the 02 vid snippets - all silver balloon imagery?
