One of Birmingham’s oldest junior football clubs is at the centre of an FA probe after an angry mum claimed her son was substituted on race grounds.

Fehnez Khan, of Solihull, alleges her nine-year-old was the victim of racial discrimination while playing for Knowle Juniors.

The Birmingham FA is investigating the claims, which have been strenuously denied by the respected club, established in 1926.

Police were even called in by the Khans following an alleged touchline verbal exchange between the child’s brother Mohysn, 22, and other parents.

Since then, the family and club have attended a clear-the-air meeting overseen by police officers at Shirley Police Station.

The mother’s claims are now being investigated by the FA, while police say they hope to ‘resolve this locally’.

Mrs Khan, who has asked for her son’s name to be withheld, said: “My son is devastated and upset. He was substituted more than any other child.

‘‘I want an apology to my son and a refund of the £160 subs I paid because the club did not benefit him.’’

The Warwickshire League club, which runs 22 teams, denies the race claims.

A spokesman said: “We are very upset by these allegations. We have taken statements from nine parents, including those of an Asian player.

"They have all said this is a football, not racial, issue.

“The manager has had so much support from parents. Mrs Khan wants the manager and assistant removed. There is no way that is going to happen.”

Mrs Khan claims her son, a club member for two years, has been criticised and forced to sit on the subs bench.

The police station meeting on March 20 has done nothing to calm troubled waters, she said.

“The club are in denial,” said Mrs Khan after the talks.

“The club’s child welfare officer said he found nothing substantiated, but no one spoke to me or my son.”

Knowle FC recently received Community Club Charter status from the FA - an acknowledgement of its good work in the area.

The spokesman stressed Mrs Khan’s son is not the only player to be subbed.

“There are two other children who have got less game time,” he pointed out.

Management have approached the FA for advice.

The spokesman added: “One of our major concerns is the effect this is having on the child. He is confused, makes mistakes and, when we say something, now sees it as us getting at him.”

A Birmingham County FA official said: ‘‘We have received a complaint and are currently investigating it.’’

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are aware of the situation and hope to resolve this locally.”

not sure the family have thought this one out, they've certainly done the boy no favours with this.

maybe he's just a bit rubbish.

Christ what is it with "pushy parents" now they want to play the "race card" too. Perhaps the kid is rubbish at football, or not very fit and can't go the whole game.

Its about time the Police stopped all the pandering to stupid people, because they think, its a race/gender issue. All this should come under civil law not criminal.

The club's desperately searching for ways not to have to say "FFS, your son's just shit, ok ! Does that make you feel better !". Sooner or later, someone'll snap. :D

They article doesn't really convey the specifics of the complaint so it's impossible to judge with any kind of fairness or accuracy.

(bet that doesn't stop there being about six new posts slating the mother and referencing the race card by the time I finish writing this though)

the specifics of the complaint are in the very first line of the article and referenced multiple times through out.

have you even bothered to read the article?

Asians aren't generally good at football anyway are they? I thought their game was cricket?

I get subbed quite a lot nowadays, but that's normally by choice 'cos I'm not the fittest anymore and need a pre and post-match bath to recover from 20 minutes of playing time!

I think it does convey the specifics very well. The boy isn't very good at football, he doesn't get a lot of playing time, the family are saying its a racial issue, the club don't want to say he's actually crap at football.

Any professional players I might know from UK club football? How many are there? Genuine question.

Must say I would be a bit peeved if I was paying fees for my kid to be sat on the side more than the others. I would hardly deem it good value for money.

Yes I have and no they're not. The complaint is referenced, of course, but not the mother's actual given basis for saying there is racial motivation.

She is a very arrogant woman - the manager is to be sacked alog with other officials - on her say so.
What a waste of police time.
Where are all the parents who have filmed the matches? Let's all see the little duffer's poor footballing skills.

What more specific info do you want? Mum has gone off on one because kid is bad at football is how the article reads. Any likelihood of the racism claim being true are negated by the fact another Asian kid’s parents are supporting the club.

    Where does it say that?

It says there's other kids with less play time, doesn't mention their race.

Edit: just re-read the middle bit, looks like the club is supported by another Asian family

    Yes it does:
"My son is devastated and upset. He was substituted more than any other child."

That appears to be the long and the short of her given basis.

Not sure of current 'crop', but there were a few:

    Zesh Rahman, Harpal Singh,

'Mixed heritage' - Michael Chopra, Anwar Uddin, Neil Taylor.

I agree. There's no way of determining whether they are being racist or if he's not good enough. But the manner in which people will jump to conclusions from such scant information can tell you a lot about their biases.

No, that appears to be what has been provided for readers of that particular article. I would be quite surprised if she lodged an official complaint of racism and offered that as her only evidence tbh.

Well, you'll have to take that up with the Birmingham Mail. Either we discuss a story based on what's provided, or we assume that every story is biased and it's therefore pointless discussing it. That'll be the end of DS then.

If it was on racist grounds, surely he wouldn't have even started the games and just been a regular sub?

Anyone who has had a young relative on a football team knows that "my boy was unfairly kept off the pitch" must be the number one complaint. As far as I can see, the usual alleged reason given by the aggrieved parents is simply favouritism/nepotism on the part of the manager. Racialism doesn't come into it.

I remember a nurse who made a complaint of racism based on her being basically kept away from patients and tasked with non medical stuff, I remember the senior in charge of the ward remarking its not because your black, its because you are shyte and a potential hazard to patients.

Complaint got booted and so did she.

A stupid mother with a sense of entitlement again.
