Symbian^3..does it have backward compatibility?

Im sure that I read somewhere that the new operating system, Symbian^3, which will be the operating system on the new Nokia N8, has backward compatibility with earlier Symbian applications. Can anyone confirm this?

I currently have an N95 8gb and many of the apps I have I use every day, paticularly Symtorrent and Coreplayer. It would be very good to know that I will be able to use these on the N8 as they stand and not have to wait while Symbian^3 versions are developed..which could take a while!

Many thanks in advance.

It should be compatible with s60 v5 software but not with your n95

    Thankyou BT@Home.

As the majority of apps for the N95 have been converted for the touch screen version I should be able to continue using most of them..except, sadly, Coreplayer.

But at least I wouldnt be buying a new smartphone with no software available at launch. Because you never know..Symbian^3 might not take off..and Android is looking like it will eventually rule the world.....
