I seriously doubt it, I couldn't get it to run under XP so I just sold it on. Best bet is to get a PS1 emulator and get the ROM, or buy the PS1 disks...I made ISOs of the disks because my DVD drive is too loud.
I could never get it to run on Windows 2000 or XP, even with the patches that were put out, and running it in compatibility mode. I think sadly it's just too ancient of a game
I bought ff7n on ps1, and ps3 store and i also have it running on my toshiba tg01 mobile phone via emulation, using a bluetooth gamepad:D, havent played it much on mobile phone so i dont know what happens when it comes to changing disc, i think it should work the same way though. It is an all time classic, they should really be making a next gen update, as goos as ff13 is it is not in ff7 league for me.
i remember play ff7 on my soundblaster awe64
with 64mb midi samples, it sounded like an live orchestra in my bedroom!, still the best game music quality i have ever heard
The PC version works on Vista for me. Thats the 32 bit version though.
It does work on 64-bit -- you just need to go through thousands of tweaks before it'll start playing. I had it working on Windows 7 and a reasonably new PC and it was fine. A couple of crashes early on in the game but nothing terribly worrying.
If you've got broadband at home, you should be able to download the whole thing in a few minutes. I remember when it came out my friends were freaking out over how big it was, and now it's like downloading a movie trailer.

The FF7 Remix upgrades the music, models, textures and videos + includes the OpenGL patch amongst many others http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=d0c2644db72e2322ec0cfe82480acdb0&topic=8915.0
