I really enjoyed the coverage, Only wobbly shots I saw were from high up ones, so perhaps it's the cranes themselves wobbling - didn't annoy me much though.

but the HD picture looked so much sharper than the 3d one. Its HD for me all the way.

That's because it is. Only cinema has 3D where the left and right eyes are 1920x1080 each, Sky 3D is squished into a single HD channel.

I don't see that as an issue anyway, HD and 3D cannot be compared, just like 3D and 4K cannot be compared. Completely different things.

Well for me it was not a good viewing experience, so 3d was an issue for me, comparison or not (but I sought of see your point). In fact the three others I viewed with all agreed and were all uninspired.
Had a thought, with those darn glasses, it would make it rather awkward looking at the ipad sky app/laptop and a second tv at the same time, which is what most dedicated F1 viewers would do.
Still a nice gimmick to see and try, but now looking forward to this afternoon to sit down at home and watch the testing in glorious sky HD.

    Not an issue with passive.

    A review here of yesterday's 3D coverage.

I am currently watching practice on Sky Go on PC in work. It sounds like the audio is slowed down. Anyone else have this or is it just the PC I am on - needless to say, I can't run around and try it out on lots of different PC's!!

EDIT: Just changed from "Auto" speed to "High" and seems to have solved it

I think I read somewhere (apologies if wrong) that Villeneuve will also be doing some work for Sky Italia this season.

Keith Collantine from F1Fanatic got to view some of the 3D footage yesterday:

    http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10151278267806927&id=145185891926
Just bumped into David Croft who took me over to Sky's commentary booth to show me some of the footage they're shooting in 3D at the moment.

Some of the angles work well - the head-on shot down the pit straight and close-ups in the pit lane. He said they would try to use more pit lane stuff in today's broadcast. He also pointed out it was all being filmed with Sky's equipment - not FOM stuff - as has been reported elsewhere.

For panning shots and tracking shots I felt the 3D didn't really add anything. And as when I've watched 3D films in the cinema I found the glasses irritating and I started to get eyestrain from them.

Also has a poll on his website about if 3D or UltraHD are the future:

I wish they would stop banging on about the 3D. Brundle is not convincing at all, he is just a tool being used to promote 3D.
It is this constant self promotion that makes me switch to the BBC every time they are live.

Still think the on-screen text is far too large.

Text size seems fine to me, and as for constant self promotion? BBC do same with the forum so bloody what! Does it detract from what we see? No. Out of the whole 2 and a half hours 3D probably mentioned for about a minute and a half, so taking vital time out of what we're watching? No! Seriously- this forum is becoming the Victor Meldrew of f1 watching.
Been out and about this week, noticed while I was in the Netherlands, Sports1 has F1 with some very nice trails not too dissimilar to SkyF1's, although they had the FOM Casino season review running through the Copa Del Rey halftime coverage this week as well with the word Emotion tailing it. Very nice, as is the new magazine I spotted today back here. Formula Magazine. Good team behind the scenes, Sarah Holt, Natalie Pinkham, Andrew Benson, Rubino Barrachello, although the Tamara Ecclestone shots are a bit iffy, some good reading there!

I much preferred yesterdays testing commentary, I think Brundle changed it all today.
He does get a bit irritating on times.
Agree, there was a bit too much harping on about 3d today.

Did anyone else notice the flags were wrong at the end of practice?

Hulkenberg and Sutil were Mexican, and Rosberg French.

I really enjoyed the banter, lots of interesting snippets of info from Brundle.

Is there a download available anywhere with the 3D video, for those of us who have the F1 channel and a 3D TV, but not the Sky 3D channel?

I was just having a look for that, but haven't found one yet. Please PM if you find one!

Seems the F1 Show gets put up, but this is a bit 'specialist'.

An upload of the 3D is highly unlikely.

Not broadcasting related but Jules Bianchi joins Marussia after the termination of the contract of Luiz Razia.

Better use of 3D today with more pitlane shots and a few still 3D images that were very good.

Still dont really see the point however as it doesnt really add very much to the show but does reduce the picture down to near BBC levels of HD liteness - and we are yet to find out of course just why Sky have done this, given that they wont seemingly get the chance to try it during the season.

Also, even more so this week without Ted/Croft beside her, I though Natalie was well out of her depth hosting the F1 show.

They need a proper replacement for Georgie quick.

There may well be a pub quiz trivia question in that in years to come.

Re 3d, think sky have to somehow justify the 3d efforts/strategy they probably hired/bought to their shareholders.

Thought the same about Natalie, Ive never been a fan of her but she was bad on the F1 show today, Ted carried that show and it looked like Ant was lost all the way through it, missing Georgie.
The other half (who doesnt care for F1, but was watching with Me) called her a 'Plain Jane' and commented on her Thunderbirds outfit :) she's a georgie fan too.

Which would likely mean Sky taking over from FOM as Host broadcaster for that race, Not sure thats something I'd like to see happen.

Not necessarily - FOM could remain host broadcaster for the 2D coverage but allow Sky to produce a 3D feed for them, kinda like how F1D+ and a local broadcaster co-existed for several years.

I am amused now having just read about Bianchi and watching the testing coverage after getting back from work with Bob Fearnley signing off with the following on Bianchi; "I wouldn't say all the avenues are closed off for him."
