e.g I heard a snippet of Layla by Derek and the Dominos and was reminded just how much i hate that song. .. there are songs i didn't like when i was younger but now like/or don't mind but that one remains high on my list of loathed songs.

Wonderwall is always held up as a classic. I think it's a whiny dirge.

I'd agree with both of those. And add a few of my own...

    Spandau Ballet - True
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares To You
    U2 - One
    Ultravox - Vienna
    Robbie Williams - Angels
Ben E King - Stand By Me

Tedious dirges them all., IMHO of course!

Does The Lady In Red count? I'm sure Chris De Burgh thinks it's a classic but it has me running out the room with my fingers in my ears every time.

I think calling that a classic would be the equivalent of calling a pot noodle 'gourmet cuisine'. :o:D As for your reaction when it plays, "right to do!". ;-)

Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
    Imagine - John Lennon
Angels - Robbie Williams (do people consider this a classic?)
    Wonderwall - Oasis

I would not call it a classic but Bonnie Tyler's Total ecliple of the heart is a very overrated borefest and godawful song imho

I like the idea that at least people accept the idea that there are songs that are classics even though they don't actually like them. Mine would be 'Smoke on the Water'......

Imagine for sure. There was a thread elsewhere about John Lennon and from other stuff I have read about him, he was a pretty cynical and selfish man for much of his life and the lyrics just seem too good to be true.

Eye of the Tiger, I hate boxing, and Im instantly suspicious of anyone who claims to be inspired by this song! I preferred the KYTV version 'Nose of the Leopard' :D

American Pie, no particular reason, I just don't get what's so great about it, it sounds like a buskers song.

Coming from Manchester, ANYTHING by the Stone Roses. Men my age go misty eyed for them, I do not get it at all. I kept hearing about 'Spike Island', if everyone who claims to have been there was there, Spike island must be the size of Cuba :D

I couldn't disagree more. It's my all time favourite song.

Not sure if it is considered a classic, but Celine Dion's-'My heart will go on' This song is probably Celine's most known song, but I can't stand it.

Squeeze Box?? I'm a massive Who fan, but I'd never call that a classic.

Another Brick In The Wall is a strange one for me. As a standalone, I'm not bothered about it, but when playing The Wall in full (as it should be played), it is brilliant. Fits in perfectly.

Imagine , for me . Boring and hopelessly naive idealism , from someone who wouldn't have known the real world from an acid trip .

Anything by T. Rex, but a special mention for

    Metal Guru is it you
    Metal Guru is it you
Sitting there in your armour plated chair

    Metal Guru is it true
    Metal Guru is it true
    All alone without a telephone

    Metal Guru could it be
You're gonna bring my baby to me
    She'll be wild you know
    A rock'n'roll child

    Metal Guru has it been
    Just like a silver-studded sabre-tooth dream
    I'll be clean you know
    Pollution machine

    So deep, maaan.

The Weight can't be a classic, I've never heard of it!

Sit Down I think is another one considered a classic in Manchester and I agree, it's awful, the guy can't even sing very well!

Wouldn't say I despise it but Hotel California is very overrated. People consider it to be one of the best songs ever but there are many better songs both by the Eagles and in general

Have to agree about Layla. Pretty awful song in general but when it gets to the second part (that doesn't seem to have anything in common with the first section) then it's real 'finger nails down a blackboard' stuff. Seriously painful to listen to.
