Sounds about right for Labour a slight move to the Left lost us seats so an even further move to the Left is bound to work

He won't become prime minister but the country needs a left wing choice rather than a Tory party disguised as Labour.

Well they'll certainly get that with Corbyn in charge. It will probably split the Labour party in two though - between realists/sensible people and those who back Corbyn. Either way, it's good news for the country.

The resident right really dislike people having a real choice instead of having to pick between Tory A and Tory B.

Even if Labour don't win in 2020 at least the people can no longer hide behind both parties being the same.

I for one welcome a real opposition but I would since I actually support democracy and not a one party state in all but name.

I like Corbyn and hope he becomes leader. Finally a decent and different opposition!

    Agreed.

Win or lose a true opposition is better than a clone of the status quo. I'm sick of the same crap year after year.

Nope - not sure what you mean here - no problem with a left wing party - but this country is not naturally left wing - so a far left candidate is pretty much going to lead to a conservative victory in 2020.
Even if Labour don't win in 2020 at least the people can no longer hide behind both parties being the same.

But not extremist - it is far too easy to dismiss what they say.

It would be nice - but again if one is so extreme that nobody takes any notice it is meaningless.

You do know that you don't have to vote Labour or Conservative there are other political parties available

There are, but they are never going to get in.

I would like to see political party's based on principles again, not just adopting policies they think the voters will like.

New Labour ruined the Labour party. They gave them election victory, but at what price? So many of their core supporters deserted them. Even ethnic minorities are supporting other party's now.

They are nothing more than a metropolitan Islington liberal elite now that has very little connection to real Labour voters.

If Jeremy Corbyn wins the Labour Leadership contest, I will resign from the Labour Party and in 2020 the Conservatives will win with a huge landslide majority over all the opposition party's. It will be an absolute disaster for Labour.

One party can't stay in power indefinitely. Sooner or probably later the voters will switch just for a change.

I suspect there will be a split and a new Tony Blair / Vince Cable type centrist party formed. The Lib Dem's may split as well leaving just the orange liberal Nick Clegg types.

The idea of future Tory victories concerns me slightly more than a hell of a lot, but it's about time that Labour actually spoke for Labour beliefs, and gave this country an alternative. It has taken me a while to decide what I want from the Labour party, but it definitely has to be about belief in what it is saying, rather than saying what it thinks will win votes.

We need something more like the SNP this side of the border... can Corbyn take Labour in that direction? Are the electorate willing to embrace such a party? Who knows! It could be very interesting though... and the more the Tory voters ridicule the situation, the better it looks.

    s.

That's the spirit! Why should the Labour Party have to degrade itself just to beg for votes from all those unwashed, sweaty proles?

Well, as a lifelong Labour supporter and voter, I could never vote for a Labour Party led by such a person who would put forward such left-wing policies.

And I suspect I would not be alone in that.

Sometimes, I just despair at Labour.

I don't know so much..... I think he might give Labour the seperate identity it needs. And he's certainly not a clone of the other two. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the next five years.

And this country really really does need an alternative to what we have to choose from now.

Labour tried with Foot, and failed.

Labour tried with Kinnock, and failed.

Labour tried with Blair, and won.

Labour tried with Blair, and won.

Labour tried with Blair, and won.

Labour tried with Miliband, and failed (I won't mention Brown as he was as much of a causal factor in Labour's election failure as any of his policies).

Now unless the electorate have performed a massive about-turn, left-wing socialist policies, however well-principled and however well-articulated, don't seem to go down well with the electorate. And these days, as Miliband found out, the merest hint of a left-wing policy, thought or connection leads to much negative reporting which seems to resonate (even if untrue or exaggerated).

Like the one's currently waging open class warfare against the people of this country for example?
