When I heard A Winter's Tale just before Christmas it didn't sound so bad anymore. .

It never sounded bad! It's Xmas cheese of the highest order!

Oh, a late entry... Housemartins' Caravan Of Love. Combine the facts that a) the word 'caravan' exclusively has no place EVER in a song, with b) acapella being almost impossible to pull off, and you have the perfect legitimate excuse for being driven to murder.

I found Caravan of Love a bit dreary but the acapella was superficially clever. Tameside Radio played another Housemartins song Build, which was worse. As they were playing other hits from Autumn 1987 they also played the hideously over-rated China in Your Hand from T'pau. Although Heart & Soul was ok T'pau made little else worthwhile afterwards.

Some of the songs I hated from the 1980s are:

Everything by Dollar, Kylie, Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet
    All football songs
Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini by Bomballerina (aka Timmy Mallett)
    All rap rubbish
All novelty songs such as those by the likes of Spitting Image, Orville, The Young Ones etc.
All songs by the likes of St Winefred's School Choir and Clare and Friends
    Oh Superman by Laurie Anderson
    Everything by Bucks Fizz
    Everything by Blondie
Everything by the likes of The Sex Pistols
    Everything by Dross (sorry, Bros)

I'll no doubt be adding to this list at a later date but these will do for now.

The Time of My LIfe- Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. It's too sappy and so overplayed, that I now hate it with a passion.
    True-Spandau Ballet. So OTT
    Red Red Wine -UB40
Mr Blue Sky -ELO (Hope this was in the 80s)

These were among my worst 40 songs of the 80s.

Mr Blue Sky was dreadful but actually a 1978 but, although ELO were often quite good.

With a few notable exceptions most chart hits from 1984 to 1989 are dire (imo).

    Wow, a 5 & 1/2 year old thread suddenly get's a re-boot shocker! :o

As a few others with good taste have already mentioned, the worst song of the 80's is surely:-

Spandau Ballet - True. An extremely repugnant and odious dirge.

Runner up - anything by Wet Wet Wet.

Closely followed by - anything by Level 42.

    That's all. :p

I agree about "Story of the Blues".

    Good (and different) song.

"Many Rivers to Cross" and "Fast Car" were excellent too.

"Come On Eileen" became the 'Part Closer' in the 80s - much as "Hi Ho Silver Lining" had been in the 70s. The last tune to get up and dance to before the final 'smoochie' one.

Stock, Aitken and Waterman could fill the bottom 100 with their repetitive rubbish.

I love Many Rivers to Cross but Fast Car is appalling

    Yes-it was vile.

Frankie by Sister Sledge for me-a massive hit & utterly risible. I have no idea, to this day, what people saw in it. >:(

One of my least favourite songs from the 80's has to be Lady in Red. Not because it's a bad song per se, but because it gives people who only know that song by C de B gives them completely the wrong image of him, Chris de Burgh has been known to rock with the best of them

Talk about daft, random threads. In this one someone manages to diss the whole new romantic movement (corrected by some savvy posters), rap, PiL, U2, classic tracks by Guns n'Roses, Tracy Chapman, Hot Chocolate, Spandau, Annie Lennox etc.

I guess that's what you get if you ask least favourite lists. It shows me how varied, experimental and interesting the 80s were compared to the modern stagnated, homogeneous charts.

    The Firm - Star Trekkin'

I was only 6 years old when that was #1 and I even hated it then, and I'm sure I was the target audience for the song.

Oh, and The Birdie Song. I know it's supposed to be crap but I just can't stand the song. >:(
