What a great year for tuneage! And in my opinion the finest track of all:

1: Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra: Want it Back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZCadqQY-Lw

Let's hope 2013 brings more of the same.

Now that I have had my tea, I can comment a bit further! 2012 is the first year that nobody I liked in the 90s has featured. Kylie Minogue has unusually missed out, her only other "damp squib" years being 1998 and 2003 (which were my least fave years in the strongish 1997-2005 period). However, Coldplay featured in 2000 and subsequently in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2011. Meanwhile sister in crime Rihanna is back having featured in 2007 and 2011. Also fback from last year in Olly Murs, who featured in 2010 too. He may have taken over from the Saturdays and Pixie Lott for featuring in successive years.

Maroon 5 are back from 2004 and 2007, and Little Boots and Cheryl Cole from once before ie 2009 and 2005 respectively. Mind you, for Cheryl to satisfy her 7-year itch she had to release a solo song, as her year chart entry in 2005 was as part of Girls Aloud.

Everyone else is here for the first time. In some cases, I can identify with people who preferred another song of theirs. Examples are Jessie J and Paloma Faith, in whose case I understand the appeal of Price Tag and Upside Down.

Although 2012 is among my top 5 least favourite years for music, the others being between 1990 and 1996, I can see that the music scene may in fact have started to turn a corner in July.

I think my nos 3 and 4 could be from Olly Murs and Jessie J. If so, my top 4 are from male and female solo singers, and male and female groups!
