He thinks he's American, because there "momentarily" does mean "in a moment". Perhaps he'd like a one way ticket there.
That's my biggest gripe with him too! He clearly thinks speaking in Americanisms somehow makes him sound bigger, better or funnier because he does it so often. It just makes him sound so fake and a bit of an idiot.
I wish he'd disappeared there years ago if he adores America so much.

Perhaps he thinks it will appeal to the international Web audience?
Also...YES any presenter with the full weight of BBC production behind them would pull in good figures, when SW is away the show is obviously run on a tighter budget.
Five years time I could see him stepping down to a weekend show - weekend breakfast wouldn't be a bad idea. He could do with a different format just to remind the sceptics that he can be a great broadcaster
I am going to repost what somebody else has said on here, as it was a while back, and add a few of my own:-
List of annoying things about Steve Wright
1. Non-Stop Oldies (which he constantly talks over or inbetween. Which part of NON STOP does he not understand?
2. He promised a while back not to "sing" and I use that word loosley as he can't sing, over records, but annoyingly he still does it.
3. His ridiculous laugh in the middle of saying something that is not even remotely funny!
4. Talking over and cutting tracks short, they used to do that in the old days of cassette tapes to stop people recording them, but that is kind of redundant now in the digital age.
5. "Love the show"! Get rid of that Steve for goodness sake! You know that you add it in and not everybody says that.
6. The canned background cheering, he is living in the wrong Century, that is so yesterday.
7. The show format and the American recorded theme tracks, are long overdue changing.
8. "Sports Guy" This is not America Steve, I know you love the place, why don't you just stay in New York and annoy the heck out the Yanks instead?
9. Serious Jockin no flipping "G" We know that because Steve Wright reminds us about 200 per Friday afternoon show! Get rid of that, just play some music and shut the heck up!
The show either needs some serious revampin (no flaming G!), or he should be replaced with a more 21 st Century style DJ, who is not so keen on the sound of his own voice

There's a unique button on your radio that says on/off - try switching off
Most annoying thing about Steve Wright - that it pees off a small number of people on DS that after 30 years he can still do a national show and get the numbers.
Oh no, sorry, wait....that's the BEST thing about Steve Wright.
Or better still, switch to 6Music that is what I do in the afternoon (and mornings at the moment whilst Ken Bruce is away).
On 6Music this morning, I found Lauren Laverne to be equally as uninteresting as Trevor Nelson. But the music was marginally better.
But then Horror Show by DJ Shadow (feat. Danny Brown) came on, and I immediately switched back. Talk about an appropriately-named track!
Similarly, Wright has been at it again with instant switch-off tunes. He's still playing DJ Khaled's Wild Thoughts, and also now the equally execrable Dua Lipa with New Rules. Steve Wright needs to stop thinking he's being cool by playing stuff that a significant proportion of his audience won't like. Stick to cheesy stuff like the brilliant Boogie 2nite by Booty Luv that he played in the Non-stop Oldies on Monday.
Across other R2 programmes, Enrique Iglesias's Súbeme La Radio (feat. Sean Paul & Matt Terry) is unfortunately getting lots of airplay as well. It's as if R2 & R6 both want a cut of 1Extra at the moment. At times they are plain awful.

Exactly!
I can't understand why someone would make a list of 9 points they didn't like about the show which basically IS the show Day in, day out but because of their detailed knowledge but clearly listens.

And, yet, you still seem to listen to the show, very intently by the looks of things to be able to produce such a review.

Secret true fan?
Of course they are. They are like those that slate shows like the X Factor but can repeat wpthe playlists form every show and all the contestants.
I enjoy the Factoids.
Didn't know until Tuesday that a snail has 14,000 teeth

Are these newer songs not on the Radio 2 playlist. Remember it's not all older music these stations play
For what it's worth - I enjoy Steve's show on my drive home.
At the end of a hard day in the office, I quite like not being challenged as I sit in traffic. Steve's show provides just the right level of entertainment and music in the background as I think about shifting my mind from work mode to home mode. Whenever anyone fills in, I find it far too challenging and a difficult listen and switch off - usually sitting in silence.
When I stick it on, it's a reminder that everything is ok in the world and I think it would be a shame to lose it.
Is it not the case that the British Submarines tune into Radio 4 every now and again to check that the world hasn't succumbed to nuclear disaster? They should just tune into Radio 2 every Friday at 4.15 to make sure serious jockin' (no g) is on. God help them if they hear Claudia Winkleman or Al Murray.

Because you don't like particular tunes doesn't mean a significant proportion of his audience don't. I'm sure some would agree with you but others probably don't mind or like them. Personally I'd much rather hear these than the dire Steps or Fizz! I'm happy to have a mix of new + old. Maybe you ought to listen to Smooth or Magic?
The Factoids are good, I like Tim Smith. I am looking for something else to listen too, I too thought that Lauren Laverne on 6 Music was uninteresting although the music was pretty good most of the time. Radio 2 do seem to have a "playlist" so like Heart you end up with the same records during the day.
I tried 6 Music yesterday afternoon, but was disapponted it was Mark "um ah, um ah" Radcliffe! Can't stand him. May just stick to Gold, or Magic.
Thanks for the commens on here. I agree with some people time Steve Wright retired.

As others have said you could get almost anyone to present a show on Radio 2 at that time and it would get good audience figures.
Biggest turn off is WHY oh WHY does he have to talk over every bloooody record and ruin the last 30 seconds or so. Shut up and let us hear the music

Yes they would, as he would always be saying it was Saturday morning. He wasn't on in the afternoon 20 years ago.
