I saw a clip on one of those travel/antique/house shows on BBC TV where they visited the Fry's chocolate museum (they were the first to produce a bar - until the 1850s it had only been used as a drink) and some of the original bars are exhibited there.
It was suggested it would be fine to eat, though of course they didn't want anyone to try.

Most use-by dates are only a guide for when the nutrition falls below the stated level - nothing to do with consuming after making you ill.

If they don't check the date it's their own fault. Besides, they're very unlikely to get ill, it'll just taste a bit weird. And it's not like it's any kind of crime for you to give it to them anyway.

It was a multipack, don't know if the date was on the individual twixes

You would think, but when I asked if they like twixes they said "we'd rather have the cash"

Blimey, six months out of date chocolate. How on earth did you manage that? If I've got chocolate in, wherever it is in the house, it constantly shouts "eat me, eat me" in a very demanding way :D

No perfectly fine & perfectly edible...chocolate doesn't have an out of date, but a best before.

I've eaten raw fish fingers without any ill effects, so I'm sure the kids will survive on stale sweets. Remember that any best before date means just that, leave it any longer and it shouldn't harm you, but just won't taste as nice.

They should be grateful for what they are given. We don't get and T or T where I live now but where I lived before I did. One little group of little tykes (mini-thug offspring of local thug family) said when I tried to give them some chocolate (in date!) said, We don't like that, we want cash. I told them to pee off!!!

They should be thanful you didn't dip mouldy onions in a candy coating for maximum trolling factor, but choccy does keep for months in a good environment after its date

Heres some halloween advice, if you see a trick or treater going past, turn the lights off and turn them on again when they have passed!
