many fans who watch Doctor who on youtube or are major fans will have seen or heard of Babelcolour,
he has spent most of his life as a dedicated doctor who fan and over the years has made many amazing video tributes to the show and its characters
But more importantly this man has put hours of his life into editing and coloring old black and white episode of doctor who for fans he eventually became a pro doing colourisation work For the BBC Dvd Versions of Terror of the Zygons’, ‘Mind of Evil’ and ‘Genesis of the Daleks
so how do BBC repay him....By making threats of legal actions and to ban his youtube account if all his videos are removed from public view which he has sadly had too ... this is a disgrace to treat a loyal fan and someone who has helped them out...

That's because the Youtube videos are copyrighted material that he wouldn't be allowed to reproduce even as a Beeb employee.
To explain further, companies are legally obliged to pursue all copyright breaches, or they can be accused of abandoning their copyrights and lose them.
So the BBC is obliged by law to get rid of those videos, whether they want to or not. Especially as the Daleks are in them, which the Nation estate has the right to revoke at any time, if they don't think the BBC are looking after the Daleks.
they seemed to ignnore him for a good 7 years then he gets a job and they caution his channel, surely they could of made some deal
Isn't Genesis already in colour?
It's Planet of the Daleks.
Yep, can't argue with that. They clearly knew about him, so there are questions to be asked about why they haven't sorted this out before. Maybe they decided to be as nice as they could by turning a blind eye and not employing him. But now they are employing him, there's no way they can just leave those videos online sadly.

While Stuart may be very talented, I can't say I'm surprised that his videos have been removed. This stuff was always on borrowed time.
But unfortunately, on the surface some do pick and choose when action will be taken. My original channel was closed entirely due to Doctor Who videos. Before you had the option to download most of your own stuff.
With his new contracts, I can only assume it has come down to monetisation. It's very unfortunate, but not our place to say it was wrong. If he had written permission and then they changed their minds, that would be different..
Yep, been there, done that, worn the t-shirt. Once had a fan-video get up to 250,000 views before it got yanked by the bbc.
It's a difficult area I think. I do respect that they need to protect copyright but on the other hand there does seem to be a lack of consistency in how it's applied.
the thing is if it was actual clips i would understand, but these fan videos promote the show and show there love for it if i was a show runner i would be proud to see this videos not want them gone
yes, but the same argument can be made for a lot of well made fan-videos - that they actually promote the show and help generate interest. However, the protection of copyright is of paramount importance, so inspite of the crappy way it has impacted on me at times, I find myself on the fence.
Interestingly, a few years ago we saw the same sort of issues with the use of copyrighted music on You Tube, but a lot of the big companys now have come to an arrangement with YT around that, with the inclusion of ads for matched third party content. It's possible that in due course, they may find a work around for tv shows as well.
Yeah, it's very annoying and unjust, but I really must emphasise that they have to take this stuff down by law if they want to own Doctor Who. If they don't question fan videos, those fans could theoretically get together and try and get the copyright taken off the BBC as they're seemingly not cherishing it.
It's called genericisation - when a copyright becomes so widely used that a court decides it belongs to the world now. Because it's such a pain in the backside for everyone when that happens, it's illegal to let it happen by not defending copyright.
Which means, in a roundabout way, that the BBC cannot be seen to deliberately ignore Babelcolour's channel.
It's a stupid, stupid system.
VEVO turned out to be a really easy solution to that problem - along with artists making lyric videos.
So hopefully, some sort of VEVO-ish system might sort out TV stuff.
Very hard to do when he has already delivered it and he has already been paid for the work and signed all clearances.
I know it looks like they waited till he finished Moe then decided to pull some of his work but I'm sure it isn't the case. There is s fair few videos not just his being pulled recently. With it being the 50th anniversary the copyright protection department will have been told to clamp down on unauthorized usage of who. Obviously babels work will come under the radar as it is very popular. As with most departments in the BBC one department doesn't know what the other department is doing and the head of copyright probably has no idea of the work he has done for the range. It's just a case of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing .
Disgusting.
Now as someone who works for the bbc the gracious thing to do would be to would be to have announced this and taken them down himself and not put his employer in this awkward position, but then who fans don't have much of a view of the wider world do they?

What this guy said!
even if this is the case I see no argument which supports the idea he or anyone else should be able to use other peoples hard work with impunity. I have seen some utter drivel on Youtube which sullies the shows good name all the while using clips and audio as they wish. Why shouldn't the BBC exercise their right to some creative control? It is not public property.
The BBC isn't one person. They're not going to have a single coherent approach. The people who manage Doctor Who's internet copyright probably haven't met the DWM people.
It's not disgusting. It's a massive shame, because Babelcolour is so thoroughly brilliant, but it's regrettably how the BBC has to roll.
The BBC don't own DWM at all now anyway. It's published by Panini Comics.
