Made me smile anyway...No one is going to see this film because they are expecting a cerebral challenge, are they? Mmm...all those long, smouldering looks..Can't wait to see it!

Hollywood doesn't typically do explicit sex as well as European arthouse, so I'd be very surprised if it isn't massively watered down.

    Very true.

Although from what I understand with this "story", the male is the dominant one so that will be fine. Any time the ratings board gets piss is when a female is shown to be dominant in a non comedic way. "Going down" on a woman is also a huge no no, and a few films have had to cut such scenes as the notion of a female enjoying sex is something very hard to stomach for a lot of the more conservative types.

You can show a mans face exploding as a bullet rips through it in hi def slow mo, or any number of power tools being used on the human body in some sick mental torture flick. But the demonic act of giving a lady some oral sex is pushing that limit too far. If you show the woman as anything but a corpse like slave then you can get right outta town.

Think you will find that most porn films are better written than 50 Shades of Grey. :p

No chance. It will almost certainly be an R rated film in America and get a 15 from the BBFC.

    .

Oddly, US TV seems more progressive than US cinema in
this regard - cable shows "Masters of Sex" and
"Outlander" both had scenes with the heroines receiving, er, "pleasure
down there" from their male partners. I've even heard that "The Good Wife"-
    a network show-had a cunnilingus scene!

If E. L. James had any business sense, she'd have sold 5SOG to HBO,
Showtime or Starz and got them to make a sexual no-holds-barred mini-series
    that would be highly profitable.
The MPAA won't let a sexually explicit film get anywhere near
Middle American cinemas, so the sex in it is gonna be drastically
    toned down...

I suspect not, the MPAA is much more squeamish about sex than the BBFC (they originally gave Blue Valentine an NC-17) but since they gave it an R it will probably get a 15 here, unless we are fortunate enough to get a more explicit version.

It's already listed on the Cineworld website as an 18. I figure they know more about ratings of their upcoming releases better than anyone else. It's only a month away, so if they have it down as an 18 then i don't see it as being wrong.

Nothing yet on the BBFC website except the trailers which were 15.

And the 50SOG cash-ins begin...the Asylum is releasing a film called "Bound" starring
Charisma Carpenter as a woman who becomes involved in a S&M relationship
with Bryce Draper's younger man, Ryan Black.
It boasts the tagline "No Grey. Only Black and White."

Yes, she of "Buffy" and "Veronica Mars" fame.

"Bound" could get the drop on "Fifty Shades" by actually showing its
    hero's...er...."man gland". ;-)

Asylum movies don't usually shy away from cock. They're also universally terrible, so it's a bit of a chore to get to them.

No it hasn't. It isn't even listed on the BBFC website yet so no-one knows what certificate it has.

Would suspect it will be 18 now, as thinking about it, politically it'd be hard to have it at a lower rating regardless of whatever is or is not in the film. I doubt even if they thought the sex was at 15 level it'd be worth it to have the hassle of getting heat off rent a gob Tory MP's on mailonline for fifty shades of sodding grey, which they would if they issued it with a 15.

Can't think of anything worse than watching sex in a cinema with several hundred strangers no thanks. I predict this film is going to get panned in reviews.

I read the first book and shrugged. Didn't find it shocking or anything, just some kinky sex.

I don't know if I'll go see it. Possibly out of curiosity.

As much as I hate the very idea of this movie existing and found the bit of the book I read to be shockingly badly written.. this quote did make me laugh:
"The hidden agenda is to legitimize and glamorize violence, and to make sexual torture appealing to women. Now men don't have to entice women to engage in the violent acts that they regularly consume through pornography because Fifty Shades of Grey is doing it for them."

Gotta love feminists. They assume women have no choice, no say and no power. Maybe they think the cinemas will be full of blokes making notes and then going home to do what they saw to their unwilling wives/girlfriends but the way I see it the cinemas are likely to be full of groups of women making notes and it will be the men being talked into doing new things.

That quote is actually from Morality In Media, who are not a feminist group, but
    an organisation of religious conservatives.

I doubt I'll see it in the cinema, but when it comes (sorry) out on DVD or streaming
I might have a look at it- it could be awful enough to be the new version
    of "The Room".

"You're tearring me apaht, Ana!" :D

If the sex scenes are anywhere near as uncomfortable and unerotic as the ones in The Room, I think there'll be a lot of people asking for their money back! :D

(Tommy Wiseau as Christian Grey, they missed a trick there didn't they?! :D)
