Waiting for BB

Why does it take BB giving them a potato cooking task for the only chef in the House to finally get into the kitchen and cook for his fellow HMs, and try and be creative with the product he's got at hand?
Why do they wait to celebrate a birthday until BB gives the music, a cake and booze?
They seem to just laze about and wait for the next task and until then, all they do is gossip and be nasty to each other.
If BB would never set another task again they would be bored out of their skulls because they can't seem to think of anything to do all by themselves. Rather pathetic to be honest.

AND make their own bread
Mr Tesco does that thing called 'cukin' doesn't he?
I'd say bring the chickens back too.... but this lot would either starve them or bore them to death.
Why did it take a dance task for Lydia to do something with her experience of being a dancer? Why did BB have to call Luke to the kitchen before he thought 'hmm, there's all these potatoes here, what dish could I think of...'
It shouldn't annoy me so much but it does. Makes me feel like I've turned into my Mum, who would tell us that it's OK to be bored, as long as we didn't bore her with it.
There are a lot of younger people in the house these days. This generation has been bought up with computers, games consoles, calculators, etc. When have they ever had to think for themselves?
