I said most - not all (big difference) and it wasn't Jo Whiley who did the rubbish stand-in that I turned off.

Who was it then? I believe she's the only recent female stand in for Ken, otherwise it's been Michael Ball recently and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't mix his voice up with a female presenter.

I always liked Jo Whiley on Radio 1, has a lot of knowledge on what she plays too which is always good. Could really see her taking over Ken one day.

Now that is one dull presenter. Totally unsuitable for mornings. I think of Jo in the same way others on this thread view Edith.

Logic dictates Radio 2 are due a female daytime host, being that most of their presenters are ex Radio 1 and Radio 1 have had a female on daytime Radio 1 since the early 90s, so we now have a number of experienced ex Radio 1 DJs who have proved by hosting on Radio 1 during the days that given that they are now of a more mature age they could do a daytime slot on Radio 2.

Edith is one of many who has held down a National daytime BBC radio show, along with Jo Whiley, Zoe Ball, Sara Cox and Fearne Cotton.

All will now have presented shows on Radio 2, the question is which of these 5 gets a Radio 2 daytime show first, the bets are on...

Coxy looking most likely but Jo Whiley has a chance. Zoe seems to have blown her Radio 2 career by thinking she was above the weekend show they gave her. Edith and Fearne probably don't have enough Radio 2 flying hours under their belts yet.

Given the vogue and indeed need for more female presenters I'd go with Coxy taking over from Ken and Jo having a shorter afternoon show taking over from Steve Wright, with Simon Mayo having another hour. I'd also love to hear Lauren Laverne cover more on Radio 2.

The reason there is so much pressure to promote female presenters is that compared with the number of men the women are few. It is national BBC Policy to address this imbalance like it or not.

Eventually when one of Evans, Bruce, Vine, Wright and Mayo move on their replacement will be a woman so some of you had better get used to it.

And did anything ever change in the world by anyone just shrugging their shoulders and saying you'd better get used to it?

It was Jackie Brambles who was Lunch presenter on Radio One back in 88 and was the first female presenter to land a prime time job at the station.

So guessing Radio 2 want to do it. Whether they scrap JV lunchtime show and replace it with a female similar to what Radio One had back in the days of Gary Davis lunchtime show?

I personally would go for Sara Cox, Jo is more music ordinated show. Liza Tarbuck, Vanessa Feltz Anneka Rice and Nickki Chapman not really upto speed for primetime day show.

Yes, that's a great suggestion, she is really good IMO.

Just as well as it is safe to say that's who will get the first available gig. (unless it was Vine in which case Feltz would be offered that).

And where would the news content go? As part of their remit, there has to be certain amount of current affairs covered in daytime.

I have a feeling Vine will be stepping down soon, maybe after the next election coverage, or towards the end of the year to concentrate on more TV. Then Feltz will take his show with Sara taking early breakfast.

I'd also enjoy hearing Lauren on Radio 2. In practice I wonder whether her knowledge is too specialised for Radio 2, unless she took over the evening show from Jo.
