He joined Radio 1 in 2003:

Radio-wise he worked at Xfm before that.

Always puzzles me with threads like this why people don't just look it up for themselves. :)

But how long will he stay? As a specialist show I think his age is less relevant so could be a Peel, Nightingale or Tong, but those 3 are unique in the 47 year history of radio 1, has Zane built up enough respect to join that select group and have a very long career ahead at Radio 1 or will he get shifted to 6 music like Lamaq?

I think Zane will, and should be there for quite some time. He's hugely respected by the industry, has his finger on the pulse of what is hot or not, and is genuinely passionate about what he plays. It's quick, slick, and he's very professional. Three or four years I could imagine him perhaps stepping down to, say, the Sunday night show for a special Zane Lowe Presents type show, and a weekday slot on 6 Music after that - the Beeb will want to hang on to him

I remember he did an interview with radio one when he joined, where he said that he doesnt like dance music so won't be playing it.

I believe that Phil Taggart is being 'groomed' to take over from him .maybe not for a year or 2 though

Was that Zane in "fresh from XFM" mode, or a sign of how dance music was at the time?

In recent years he's had loads of dance music as his hottest records, pushing the likes of Example, Swedish House Mafia etc

He also got Eric Prydz involved on his recent rescoring of the movie "Drive".

That was nearly 12 Years ago, my music tastes have changed in that time, so I'm sure his will have as well.

I like Zane, he may have been a little OTT when he joined but he settled in and has become an excellent music specialist. He will be 6 Music bound at some point no doubt
