Facebook chat on Android

I learnt yesterday at work that iPhone users can access Facebook's chat facility on their phones.

I tried this on my sexy Samsung Galaxy S, but wasn't successful.

Does anyone know if Facebook are planning on introducing chat to the Android market?

Or am I just pressing the wrong button?

You'd think so....but then why not already.

There are some chat like apps on the market place - not sure I want to give my password away to strangers??? Maybe the generic chat app eBuddy is ok?

Not sure why Facebook don't have this - it certainly is an oversight. Perhaps because Android users could stay logged in indefinitely in the background where iPhone could not?

I have used Meebo in the past for this, and it works well.

Yes Ebuddy is available on many platforms including Android & IOS. I have FB on my i phone but prefer Ebuddy for chat.
I would be surprised if FB chat is not available on Android.

    .

Staying logged in indefinitely would be stupid on any phone as you would be using up the limited memory available when doing other tasks ? Also battery life could be affected.

IOS has multitasking if that is what you mean ? Apps like Ebuddy, FB, email,& text use push technology on the i phone without having the apps open in the taskbar.
