Pea brains will be annoyed. In fact, they already are.

Yeah, I'm over the moon about this:D:D.
It would have been dreadful if he hadn't used his own accent. I might stop being his only fangirl then:p.
I thought I was Capaldi's only fangirl!
I might have to fight you for the title.
Now I like Granny, but I also like Lach, but who is better.... there is only way to find out.
FIIIIGGGGGHHHT
Nah, I'm feeling quite generous, and it's been a bit lonely as the only fangirl;). I'm sure Peter can deal with two lunatics:D.
Well, I'm not sure if I'd call it fangirling, but I definitely have a thing for his voice.
I have a theory that the accent of more recent Doctors is influenced by a major companion of his previous incarnation.
Examples:-
In the Big Finish audios Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor did a lot of travelling with Lucie Miller, a girl with a Northern accent played by Sheridan Smith. Along comes the Ninth Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston, and what do you know, he has a Northern accent.
The Ninth Doctor's main companion was Rose, a girl with a cockney-ish accent. Along comes the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant, and what do you know, he has a cockney-ish accent.
The main companion of Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor has been Amy, a girl with a Scottish accent. Along comes the Twelth Doctor, to be played by Peter Capaldi, and what do you know, it looks like he will have a Scottish accent.
A bit more than a fan theory that if not actually 100% canon.
IIRC RTD had planned on giving that as the explanation for Doc#10's change in accent from Doc#9 but the dialogue never made it into the final version of The Christmas Invasion.
Dinnae forget aboot Sylvester ! I know he was trying to cover his Scots accent up, but Tennant managed it better.
Clara: "You sound Scottish"
Dr: "Lots of planets have a Scotland"
I like my Doctors to have no accent at all! I should make it completely clear however, that I'm not anti Scottish or anyish. I for example have a west country twang but would not like the Doctor to have one. This maybe one of the reasons that turned me off McCoy!
Anyway, I don't imagine it'll stop me watching and I no doubt wont even notice it after a few episodes but what can I say, its a preference, nothing more!
However, I am thrilled by the description of the new Doctor's character!
Sylvester McCoy has quite an anglified accent anyway, the Scots did come through a bit everytime he said 'Ace'
Or
Clara: "You sound Scottish"
Doctor: "One last reminder from an old friend, gone but never forgotten Amelia Pond"
The thing is it's all about your perspective. What you consider "no accent at all" I suspect others will consider very much is one.
Since my previous post I have now formulated an alternative theory - yes, I really do need to get a life.
What if the Tardis decides what accent the Doctor has?
In "Vincent and the Doctor" the Tardis decided when translating Van Gogh speaking French in a Dutch accent into English that it would sound like he was speaking it in a Scottish accent. Perhaps, the Doctor is constantly speaking in Gallifreyan, so that the Tardis would similarly need to translate it into English, and the Tardis decides to attribute what it feels is the appropriate accent for each incarnation depending upon how it (the Tardis) perceives each Doctor's persona.
Excellent post. The idea that anyone can have "no accent at all" is silly.
Indeed - I said something similar in another thread.
Posh English is as much an accent as Geordie or Scots.
I don't recall calling anyone else's pov silly, did you really have to belittle mine? My post was perfectly polite!
Well, I did make it clear in my post that it was a preference, I wasn't trying to make a big thing of it. Its simply that I have a view on this particular issue! As I said before, if he does have a Scottish accent then so be it, it wont stop me watching it and I am unlikely to notice it after a few episodes!
Or Sylvester McCoy sound American.
I don't care about the accent but the above worries me a bit. Different is fine but don't start making him dislikeable like they did with Colin. That will really annoy me
Can I join the fangirls, think I would probably qualify as a lunatic s well:)
Oh, go on then....I just hope you realise what an exclusive club you are joining. :D
