I really enjoyed this, too. Lenny Henry's far better at straight acting (also see 1991's Alive and Kicking) than comedy, and the ending was unbelievable:
At the end of the last episode, Lenny's character had a heart attack on the roof of a school where another guy had gone up there and threatened to jump off, and it was weird as hell, as Lenny Henry dying in a show (comedy aside) was just something you'd never expect!
Still, at least they knew when to end it and not dilute it beyond watchability.

What year(s) was it on ? Must be mid 90s or thereabouts ?
Absolutely-Hope and Keens Crazy Bus-a real blast from the past!
I agree!, only saw the first series of Waterloo Road, but Hope and Glory seemed a bit more realistic and less soapy.
Anyone remember Hope and Gloria?
