Searching for Sugar Man 9/10
Music Documentary about US/Mexican singer Rodrgiuez. I knew very little about the musician or his story and it was SO entertaining , great story. Highly recommend it.
Walking on sunshine
I didn't like it. I can handle poor singing (see mamma mia) but the acting was horrendous, it was full of such cliches and predictible moments. One of the most painful musicals i have ever seen. Just didn't work despite a strong selection of classic 80's hits.
Hanna is deaf and works in a factory. Her employers force her to take a month off work as she's not taken any time off in 4 years. He is injured in a fire on an oil rig and it hurt and temporarily blinded. She becomes his nurse - most of it takes place on the oil rig. She is uncommunicative, he talks ... a lot. It's what they have to say that is interesting, culminating in her devastating story.
Really enjoyed this, if that's the right word considering the terrible tale Hanna finally tells, but it's a story of finding somebody after the devastation, finding some measure of peace.
I don't think many directors could've pulled this off as well as David Fincher did. I thought the cast were fantastic, especially Rosamund Pike. One scene was particularly brutal.
Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, James Franco, Kim Basinger, Adrien Brody, Maria Bello.
Written and directed by Paul Haggis.
The film is about 3 seemingly unconnected stories set in New York, Paris and Rome. An author who has just left his wife for a younger woman with a terrible secret. A mother who denies accusations of attempting to murder her son and an American couture thief who becomes embroiled with the mother of a kidnapped child.
It's not an action film, not a thriller, it's about people really. I found it very enjoyable to see each story and the twist ending was satisfying and annoying in equal measure.
There's a great novel in here somewhere but the director's too busy playing silly games to let it shine.

Now is Good [2012]. Director: Ol Parker.
6/10
Brighton teenager with leukaemia works through her list of things to do before she dies. Made by BBC films and the BFI but they felt they needed Dakota Fanning in the lead. She's good but still curious casting.
Ok i've seen it at least 10 times, but last night i spotted Huey Lewis in the movie! At the Pinheads audition, he's the guy with the megaphone. How did i miss that!
Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life" because it was on TV the other day.
That's 3 hours of my life I'm never going to get back....
......actually it's not that bad and is very beautiful to look at. Comparisons to Kubrick and Tarkovsky are misplaced, though. Someone on IMDB compared it to the abstract works of Stan Brakhage which I thought was a better fit.
