Contributions based JSA

I left work voluntarily last June to live with my partner overseas, and he has supported me since that date. Unfortunately I have had a break up and am back home alone and jobless.

Prior to leaving work last year i had had full employment for over 20 years. I own my own place and have savings over the threshold. Can I claim contributions based JSA or has the fact that i haven't worked or claimed for 10 months invalidate it.

I know at max I can get this for 6 months. Thanks

I don't think you could, as the contributions atm go from 2011 to 2013 tax years I think. If you had paid a voluntary stamp then maybe then.

Someone with more knowledge will tell you though I guess.

Put in a claim. You'll get assessed on the previous two full tax years so you may have enough contributions to get paid. Even if you don't you may get some income based if you are under the £16k threshold as there's a taper between £6k and £16k.

Only way you'll find out 100% is to get formally assessed though. Worst that can happen is they say no so you've nothing to lose.
