I've tried mention some others that have been missed.

    (1920s
    Metropolis
    Battleship Potemkin)

    1930s
    Gone With The Wind
    The Bride of Frankenstein
    King Kong
    Angels With Dirty Faces
    Stagecoach
    Duck Soup
    Grand Illusion

    1940s
    Double Indemnity
    Casablanca
The Best years of our lives
    The Maltese Falcon
    White Heat
    The Grapes of Wrath
    Odd Man Out
    Spellbound
    Cat People

    1950s
    Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Day the Earth Stood Still
    The War of the Worlds
    the Thing from Another World
    It came from Outer Space
    Forbidden Planet
    Rebel Without a Cause
    Seven Samurai
    A Streetcar Named Desire
    Touch of Evil
    Rashomon
    The Searchers
    The Seventh Seal
    Wild Strawberries
    The Asphalt Jungke
    The Wild One
    Bad Day at Black Rock
    The Night of the Hunter
    High Noon

    There's a great many really.

Odd Man Out is a wonderful film. I love the photography, music and characters. It gets some flack today, because it is set in Belfast yet many in the cast talk with southern Irish accents. Still love it though.

Peeping Tom was way ahead of its time. Much of the content so reviled by the contemporary audience is standard fare these days.

One of the creepiest films ever made.

One of my favorite movies is The Philadelphia Story. I always felt it was very modern in its characterization of Tracy Lord. However, i have read online that many feminists hate the film because Hepburn's character has to be 'tamed' and her father's speech, is also cited as being sexist/misogynistic. I can see where they may have a point, but i can't help loving this film to bits.:(

I still watch Jason and the Argonauts (1963) whenever it's on, the effects still look good all these years later.

    Sunset Boulevard 1950.
Black Day at Black Rock, I wish they would remaster and re-release it. The last time I saw it on Film 4 the picture quality was poor but it did have stereo sound.

Curse/ Night of the Demon from the 50's is still better than a lot of modern horror films.
Plus the disintegrating rune paper is the same as the Ring tape.
Hellraiser still holds up well as does the Fly remake for me.

The first proper slasher film was Black Christmas, wasn't it ? That had all the elements that Halloween etc copied.
For similar types it isn't Pyscho. there were films in the 30's that had elements.

It by no means looks like a modern movie, but it still amazes me that the Wizard of Oz was made/released in 1939
