I don't think Nihal is that bad. Don't get the dislike for him. Each to their own I guess. :D
His caller interaction is poor. Doesn't play devil's advocate convincingly either...

And given the decrease in quality, you often get:

Panellist to guest: "So, I hear that* you have...." etc.
(*A researcher has told me to ask)

    Guest: "Er.. no."

    Clever(!)

They used to start off with the paper review, which is where it should be.
Their researcher ties themselves in knots at times. With a shorter intro they wouldn't have to ask so many pointless questions.
This show has been ruined by Channel 5 management, It was fine as a current events program not to promote what ever reality TV rubbish on Channel 5 and the tacky types from CBB :(
As a tentacle of the Dirty Des empire it was inevitable that TWS would have to do its bit and cross-promote any downmarket rubbish that's on the channel. Wasn't as big a problem under RTL.
    DVDfever wrote: »
It's not just in the guests where the problem lies, but in not bothering to have many (or any) decent TPs. This has been a problem for around 3 years.
Lightweight panels would be out of their depth if they had insightful TPs though. If there's a decline in the standard of panellists then the TPs will (and have) follow suit.

Blimey O'Reilly, our Kirst isn't hard on the eye, is she?:)

After viewing that clip, I have come to the opinion that she is entirely wasted being sat behind a desk on Wrighty's 2 and a half hour crapathon. She should try and get a gig on one of BBC3 or ITV2's celebrity based parp.

Or maybe Kirsty can go and present This Mornings the Hub.

Brilliant today with Andrew Castle! He is funny, personal anecdotes, and interacts well with the panel.

Andrew Castle demonstrated today that this format - with a few minor tweaks - is still a very good use of daytime TV. The trouble is that its worth is swamped by the ego that is Matthew Wright, whose constant interruptions, inability to accept a view that differs from his own, rudeness to callers whose nervousness causes them to stumble over their words, and fawning sycophancy towards people he's previously dissed, makes the show hard for me to watch nowadays.

Of course, it's his programme and he can run it how he wishes, but the fact is that I enjoyed almost all of it today, and when MW is presenting I watch only the newspapers section.

Jeez, Fatima Whitbred could even suck the joy out of an orgasm. Gonna be a hard week.

I disagree about Castle - Thought he was especially Patridgesque this morning. “Kirsty likes older men” he says. WTF was that all about? Who hasn’t seen all the Star Wars films? Why Andrew Castle of course which is why he spent a good couple of minutes “bantering” with Kirsty before going on a pointless nostalgic reminisce about the exact cinema where he saw the first one, even coercing a caller into doing likewise to the entertainment and education of NO-ONE.

Radio 1 bint successfully validating the commonly held impression of Radio 1 DJs. On that evidence I say bring back characters like DLT and Jimmy Savile. :D

It’s a piss-poor show when you’re grateful for someone from Big Cook, Little Cook being on......

BIB - Heh, told you. Just be thankful she isn't paired up with Neil Puke, we'd need the Samaritans on speed dial if it ever happened :D

Castle is efficient enough, he can cram about 4 calls into a discussion when he wants to. Could've hurried Fatima up a bit on the papers.

The first two callers on junk food were scary, shirking responsibility and wanting the govt to ban anything that may be bad for us. Count me out...perhaps a more authoritarian country would be a better fit for 'em.

Radio 1 DJ was pretty lightweight but she had a terrific laugh. Shame she didn't have better hair.

Fatima summed up how interesting her input is going to be when she sugested that they should label the food ingredients if it has horse meat in it , missing the whole issue by a mile... plus if i downed a shot every time she uttered the term at the end of the day in that montoned dreary voice of hers I would get very drunk very quickly.

Cant stand Castle, but then I doubt Matt would pick a great presenter to stand in for him for fear of his job,

fingers crossed Matts back soon, I only tune in for the papers but this lot ... wow

Agree that Castle in an effort to be familiar does go close to the line and almost can hear the crunch of reverse when loquaciously trying to gloss over unfunny and foolish banter.

Yes it's decline does coincide with that Porn guy's buyout.

I remember Lowri being really good as a stand in too! she was a guest for the week and MW was very ill with a stomach bug and had gone home already. She took over and was replaced with another guest. She is well trained as a presenter and I think less annoying running the show than saying some of her more crazy views ;)

Even I have to agree about Lowri as guest Presenter.
She annoys me as panellist because of her constant "hold on, hold ons" when she wants to monopolise the discussion [which is always] - but when she is reined in from talking all the time by having to host the show, she does a good job.

I've recorded today's and not seen it yet. Must say I am intrigued to know who this Radio DJ is and to see her hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I quite like Fatti, she's had a hard life a survivor, but I agree, she drones on in that monotone way too much, inflection Fatti, vary the tone luv, dynamics, and if your anecdote has a point, get to it............. quickly.

    Castle is OK.

Bring back Hardeep No ? Yes ?

That's true. I'm surprised, when Dominic Holland was on, they didn't have a TP: "Is it okay to get your dad to write fake reviews for your Ebook?"

If you lot dislike Mathew and the 'celebrity guests' so much, you should just listen to Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 Monday to Friday, same show but without Mathew and the celebrity guests,

As one poster on FB commented and I agreed, I think TWS is now targettng a different audience not interested in anything beyond the kitchen, bedroom and supermarket:(
When I retired over 6 years ago, there used to be meaty political including international discussions..now they only time they touch upon anything that could affect us nationally or the planet ( God forbid) is in the newspaper section and even then that is getting thin on the ground.
Whatever we may think of Yasmin.Terry etc at leat they have the wit to provoke and inform and widen our little horizons.
Is it fear of litigation or a desire to bring on board young mums at home in favour of retirees, those between jobs,students..and I have news for you TWS even mums at home have brains despite how obstetricians treat 'em?;)

She's an admirable and well meaning woman and a great example to kids who struggle with life and she has points to offer in her field of expertise. As a guest to tackle those yes..as a weekly panelist, she is ponderous in tone and so dreary and limited.no!!!!
