Help! The Eu has outlived it's purpose

500 words for tomorrow. I've started like this:

This question is akin to asking whether capitalism has outlived it's purpose. Or whether bureaucracy has outlived it's purpose. The European Union is a product of both these facts of life in the 'western world'. The establishment of the EU has it's roots in the desire to end warring factions within the area but it was the far-reaching economic benefits that fuelled it's success. On the one hand, it has possibly been the most successful union of nations in the history of the world, uniting nations peacefully under a collective recognition of individual sovereignty underwritten by agreed principles. Surely the very essence of democracy? But it's the economic benefits that are the underpinning to the EU. Money, as always, is at the root. If the EU ceases to be profitable then it will fail. During the debate over Scottish Independence we were warned, time and again, about the dangers of going it alone.

l lost it. come on, please give me some ideas, please?
