Rachel Burden a woman so devoid of intelligence her only topic of conversation is her bloody kids.

Don't agree Rachel is miles better than the likes of Brett, Foster, Walker.....she has far more character than them and is more knowledgeable!
Having said that I did have to hit the Today programme given their features today:-
Being Gay and Asian in today's society rather than concentrate on who really killed Annie Dewani.
A School kid encouraged by Stephen Chittendon to say he had been assaulted after a snowball hit him.........
This soft left PC agenda was too much as it was avoiding the real news items but nothing new there.

The complaint by Conservative Central Office was of left wing bias in the Today Programme.
Assaulted by a snowball? Depends on what's inside it I guess.
Having said that thank you for pushing back on the nasty, mean and spiteful attacks on Rachel Burden. Unlike Queen Vic she was prepared to move her family North when the station went to Salford.

I fully agree with this. Rachel is a intelligent persistent interviewer with a real touch of living life like we do. I really rate her. She is far better without The Ego, you can sense she warms to the likes of Chris Warburton, Clare McDonnell and Tony Livesey.

I really enjoy waking up to Five Live when it is minus The Ego. Even his Bag Carrier George seems to be more relaxed. I wonder if it is in The Ego's contract that if he says something he perceives to be funny, then the others must laugh. He is a really perceptive broadcaster and would be so much more appealing if only he would be less pompous. It's a shame because he does have a lot to offer, but sadly not being funny whilst being inadvertently condescending is also in the mix as well.

I have no problem with either Sarah Brett or Anna Foster, but I do think Dan Walker is far better as a sports presenter than he is during the afternoon. In honesty, there's no real need for him.

Whilst we are on the subject of presenters, does anyone else agree that Phil Williams has upped his game and is now very much worth his place on the pitch.

I would like to add my support for RB. I enjoy listening to her on the radio. I've always found her engaging and intelligent with her broadcasting and as radiotuner inferred, a real, down-to-earth person. I have never really minded the talk of her children, it is an important part of who she is, and those moments of intimacy with her life help me warm to her as a broadcaster. They are also normally humble and often self-deprecating. I also don't mind the rugby chat, she is an obvious big fan of union, and when they are allowed, her and George can have an interesting aside about the two codes. It is nice to hear genuine fans of alternative sports to the ever-present football. I agree though, she is much better in the 6-7 slot or with an alternative presenter. I routinely hit off as soon as the ego enters...

Also on a related point, I always find NC entry to be very awkward... especially when he just cuts into an interview RB is doing. Why can't he just wait until 7am and start then?

On the PW point, I do think he has upped his game, but I also always liked him. He wasn't the necessarily the highest quality presenter with the most cutting of questions during interviews, but I always liked listening to him, and that is very important. I think it took him a long time to settle into being the only presenter on a show. He always seemed to work better with a colleague... he actually worked really well with RB on weekend breakfast before RB joined weekday breakfast.

I don't get to listen during the day much, so I can't really comment on the new day-time line-up.

I've a lot of time for Phil Williams, but I wish he wouldn't hype up that bloody quiz after midnight. There's a champions league next week for those who won a few during the year.

I have no idea how these BBC producers minds work ?

Lets do a topic some listeners might find interesting after midnight and then after it starts to get interesting and informative lets stick a stupid quiz in the middle of it !!

I wouldn't mind but one of the taxing questions he asked the other night was getting the contestants to identify the voices of David Cameron and Prince William !!!

Well put - RB has my vote too

I really don't see that RB moving north is a big deal - thousands of people move for their work - & many don't even have that luxury & have to leave their homes to work somewhere else in the week. For her salary & relocation fees it's not a huge deal.

However, I too don't mind her references to her private life, she can conduct an interview & comes across as an intelligent person.

Then the voice starts breaking up, it goes from baritone to squeak, I want to shout - clear your throat - but generally just turn to Today.

I bet she could be a good print journo - better than many other poor excuses out there - but it's RADIO & surely a clear voice should be a given requirement?

On DAB I find it completely unbearable unfortunately.

I agree. Everyone seems more at ease, especially RB, when NC is not on, which is increasingly often nowdays. I agree that NC has a lot to offer, but sadly he appears to believe his own publicity. I often find myself turning the radio station over just before 7.00 when he interrupts an item woth some stupid aside.

There was no 5Live Hit List this Sunday evening as it made way for the 'behind-the-scenes' show of Sports Personality of the Year. So why did the station waste the whole of the previous week trying to promote use of the hashtag #weatherbomb?

Dan Walker for every interview with an music artist:

"If you had started out in todays environment, how different would things be?"

He asks this question in every interview, in fact he has a few he asks every time. Just a terrible interviewer.

Walker & Brett today were dire covering the Sydney café siege this afternoon. They had some good live coverage from Australian broadcaster ABC of the Police going in but for some reason they had to keep talking over it saying what we were listening to and giving the background, FFS they should have just shut up and let us listen live.

If you think that was bad you should have heard Nolan's chaotic coverage of this last night. They went over to the Australian radio station and at the scene reporters and Nolan just wouldn't allow them to get a couple of sentences out before you heard his big gob rudely interrupting them and then going over to someone else. When are these 5live egomaniac presenters going to get the message that it is not all about them and listeners would like to actually hear what people, who are closer to the scene, have got to say !

I can't listen to them. They are both dreadful presenters and like the sound of their own voices too much. One asks a question and then the other one cuts across them to get their own question in. I heard a few seconds of an interview with Pricilla Presley last week which was particularly bad. Why does it take two of them to interview a guest. I had to switch off.

Bacon was b awful but I didn't listen to him either.

Did anyone hear that gem last week about the failure of the computers at the air traffic control centre. They went over to ( it appeared so) a specialist reporter at Heathrow who said there had been an outrage at the centre. No one in the studio dared to correct her. I don't know who she was.

And I am another one who very much likes Rachel Burden, and she did mention her daughter this morning.

    Yes,

Caught that, thought it was hilarious that anyone can report a power outrage. it's just shody. lazy journalism, somebody reading off some twitter feed or other news source, without any understanding of what they are reporting on.

One of the biggest news stories for years unfolding in Pakistan and Adrian Chiles' show mentions it in passing then carries on with his scheduled interviews and sports reports. ridiculous

Walker and Brett are two of the worst interviewers I've ever heard. I've lost count of the number of interviews they've started with "So where do you get your crazy ideas?"

As Richard Littlejohn says "I read the Guardian so you don't have to" I'm pleased that there are people still listening to 5 live so I don't have to.

Did anyone hear the interview on Drive yesterday evening with the lady who'd hired her local pub on Christmas Day to serve dinner to elderly people who'd otherwise have a lonely day? Within seconds it became apparent that the lady wasn't responsible for hiring the pub, and it wasn't taking place on Christmas Day at all, just a regular old folks' Christmas meal. So no real story at all. And this is research?
