COD4 Downloading Game Settings

Having read other threads it would appear that there are loads of people having problems getting online with this game. My game was working perfectly until yesterday when it just froze on downloading game settings. Tried loads of times without success. Also freezes when I play split screen offline. Does anyone have a solution that actually works for this problem as it is driving me mad.

    What actually is the "downloading game settings" bit anyway....what info is it getting ??
    Just what friends are online...checking maybe for updates ??

    Mmm turn your router off and back on again thats what i done and it sorted it! Or just before you press play online wait a few seconds!

    I've had the same problem last few days and the only way to sort it is to reset router:)

    Thanks. Have reset router and so far so good.
